It does read playlists. I have been having a problem having it read both .mp3 and .wma files. It wasn't able to the play the .wma and they weren't protected .wma's. I ran a conversion from .wma to .mp3 but it was taking too long for the copy so I couldn't grab the drive before I had to leave..

Yes, it will play playlists from a USB drive, as long as the playlist files themselves are in the root directory. It will also have no problem with them on your iPod.

Thank you, codeman71. This is going to save me a lot of time. And probably a lot of money too.

The owners manual says the system will index a maximum of 10,000 songs on a device.

For those of you that have already started using your flash drives....do you place them in folders by artist? Does it matter? Or do you just throw all of the songs onto the flash drive with no ryhme or reason? Just curious to know how the stereo reads and see the files on the flash drive.

I overheard a guy that drove a 2010 2SS say that his flashdrive had to reindex files everytime he shut the car off.

That sounds aggravating.

Anyone else experience this issue?

We designed this so you wouldn't have to do this. The only issue would be maybe if he shut the car off before it had a chance to finish indexing. I don't know if the vehicle remembers a partial index, but once a drive is fully indexed, it shouldn't need to be indexed again, unless the content is changed, or you plug in another device that needs to be indexed. The vehicle can only remember the index of 1 device at a time (other than iPod, which stores its own index on itself).

Approximately how long does it take to index say like a 2 or 4gb drive? As well while thats going on can you listen to another source like satelite, CD, or AM/FM?

Yeah, but way more expensive. That and it is a nice feature for the Apple haters (me ) to not have to use CDs!

Hey Codeman, got another question for you.

Over the weekend I test drove a 1LT with C&C. I popped in my flash drive and the system started playing right away (awesome!) but all my files were organized alphabetically by song title (not so awesome). Are there other ways it can organize the songs? Having "Sweet Child of Mine" followed by "Sweet Emotion" and "Sweet Home Alabama" could be fun sometimes, but most of the time I'd rather just pick an artist or an album and have it run through their tracks.
