This is the first thread longer than 2 pages that I've actually read each post for in a long time. But here's my $0.02.

To me, anyone who has this attitude of "I do have things I'd like to hide, mostly where I go is no ones business after I paid $40k cash for a car" just comes off as someone who does have something to hide from law enforcement. There are people who are paranoid, flattering themselves with the false notion that everyone is out to get them, especially the fuzz, so let them be paranoid.

As far as information being forwarded to Chevrolet or your insurance agency after you take your car to the track, remember this: You have to pay to play. If you don't want your warranty voided, or your insurance premiums increased, then don't take your car to the damn track! Simple as that! Rules are rules, you break them, you pay!

I myself am not worried about being spied on. I don't participate in any illegal activity, or even anything suspicious. And I'm getting ready to serve my country. For Pete's sake, I'll be working for The Man. If I were one of these paranoid people, OnStar would be the least of my worries. We military people are much easier to be spied upon than normal civilian citizens. We deal with classified information, we REALLY have to know when to keep our mouths shut. But on the same token, there really is no reason to be paranoid about being spied on. If you are, then I suggest ridding yourself of all forms of electronic, modern technology, moving out into the middle of nowhere, and living a life that was last lived a century ago.

Is this any difference than getting a ticket in the mail from the photo radar setups in some states ? Then again if you are doing something wrong you should worry.

People would go ballistic and revolt. It will never happen, that is police state type stuff right there.

Ok I'm calling BS on this story and anyone else who tells this story. I've heard it a million times and it was always "a friend" or "my cousin" never a firsthand account. In fact the ONLY firsthand account we have is the Hennessey video and that was because the car thought it was in a rearend accident due to the acceleration force.

They don't sit there and monitor you, they do not have performance monitors like that to bust your chops. This story and any story like that is BS. I know PLENTY of people who have raced OnStar equipped cars and never got a call like that.

What's all this crap I have been hearing that they can monitor your computer and tell if you have changed the tune? Is that true? If so, how are people handling getting their cars tuned without voiding the warrenty. I need details soon about this. My car is supposed to get tuned in just over a month.

My God.....the level of paranoia on this site is insane. Seriously people...if the government wants to find you they will. Period. End of story. You will not get tickets from OnStar, your warranty will not be voided for going to the track and for the love of God no foreign governments are listening in on you. If you are going to be that paranoid about OnStar you should do the following.

* Get rid of your Camaro
* Get rid of your cell phone
* Get rid of your home phone (it can be tapped)
* Cancel your internet service
* Cancel all of your credit or debit cards
* Get rid of any GPS devices you may own
* Stay away from all airports, MVDs or any other government buildings

Are we getting the picture? There is a much easier solution to all of this....DON'T BE A CRIMINAL!

GM cars equipped with OnStar are supposed to be the leading edge of safety and technology. OnStar has run a recent blitz of commercials citing helpless motorists calling in with every type of emergency, from a heart attack to locking the keys inside the car. In the advertising world, OnStar reacts quickly by sending help or even unlocking the car.

Personally I dont have anything to hide or any reason that the FBI would want or need to monitor me so I could care less. It is worth it knowing that if my vehicle were to get stolen they could use On Star to retrieve it fairly quickly.

111 posts... yawn.

Almost as boring as what the FBI would hear listening in on my car. Come on folks... in all honesty who cares IF they can hear you? You want to listen to me talk to my wife about what we need at the store? Man, they need a life more than I do! I am sure people just drive around talking to people about the crimes they are going to commit and terrorits plots they plan to carry out... YAWN!

And on a second note IF the person they are listening to is a KNOWN criminal... go for it. Catch the bastard.

President Bush didn't need warants; or DID but just chose not to and eves dropped on thousands illegally...no one did a damn thing about it! Face your "rights" are gone. When will you stop it; when they start charging and judgeing you for sexual positions in your own home? And yes the technology is already avaliable.

There's a difference between being not perfect and doing something downright wrong. Forgetting to do the dishes or take the trash out is being not perfect. Extra marital affairs is downright wrong. I can't say that I disagree with the fact that it's not necessarily the government's business, but something should definitely be done about it..

They don't monitor your computer for tunes remotely. If you do bring the car in for warranty work they can tell if the computer has been tuned and if so they can void your warranty. Depends if your dealer is friendly like that or not.

My God take off the foil hat. Do you know what kind of laws there are behind electronic surveillance, and lawyers getting access to it? Its NOT simple and its NOT going to happen.

As well they will NEVER be using OnStar to send you tickets, because then they would have to install Onstar or a similar tracking device on to EVERY car (otherwise they would be unfairly applying the law on quite a grand scale). Not only that if you read the VTL for many states the speed limit can be exceeded if the situation requires it. The computer is not going to know what your situation was, and the governments can't handle the backlog of millions of tickets this would cause (and all the people fighting them).

Before everyone freaks out about this stuff they should think of the practicality of it. Monitoring every driver for everything using OnStar would make people not buy cars with OnStar. The stuff you are talking about is like having cops with MP5s drawn on every corner in America. Its not going to happen.
