I finally corrected the problem with my different-colored 42 SMD LEDs. Although they were better than the stock halogen bulbs, the color mismatch was bugging me. I ordered another set of the same 42 SMD LEDs and replaced the yellowish LED I had installed previously (passenger side) with both of the new LEDs. Neither of them matched the driver side LED I had installed previously. However, both new ones matched each other really well so I replaced both of the LEDs I had installed previously with the new ones. I may eventually purchase the Oracle SMD LED assemblies, especially when I install a backup camera. However, I'm happy with the cheap 42 SMD LEDs for now as they look way better than the stock yellowish halogens.

Since you guys have seen up your Camaro's rear end , do you have to remove the rear end to get to the license plate light wiring harness?

And where is the fuse box for the license plate and backup lights? What are the labels on the fuses?

I used 893 fog light bulbs, had to do a little epoxy to set the bulb in the stock housing but the results are incredible. bought some 9006 headlight plugs from auto-zone and wired them up inp lace of the stock plugs. took about a hour. Pics don't do it justice, Had the oracle reverse lights a friend sold me for $50. These are twice as bright. and had i had to buy the bulbs (had a pair lying around) it would of only cost about $25 total.

Should be ok since your reverse lights don't stay on very long.

Sorry sold the oracle set couple months ago. No issues with heat since i dont drive very long in reverse. Had them on in the housings for about 25 min on my bench power, and had no melting or warping. (atma) Plan on doing a write-up the next time i remove my rear bumper, just have had no reason to remove it recently.

What a PITA this turned out to be...mainly because I bought the wrong LED's but that factory bulb-house-design...**** THAT THING!

My setup works just as this thread suggested, I did put a dab of Kragle on each LED to make sure it stays seated in the hacked up OEM bulb-housing. It looks MUCH better IMO and only cost me $11 dollars and 3 hours of my time. (if I did it again today 1 hour max)

I personally didn't like the look of the Oracle backup lights so I wanted to stick with the OEM look but a more clear led light emitting from it.

Mission accomplished.

I just dropped the back clip 4yrs. ago. Replaced the stock back-up lights with the Led Oracle lights. Everyone that has seen them at night say there Awesome spot lights. And have never had a problem with them.

So the only way to change the back up lights are taking off the bumper correct? I was gonna buy some led ones, but I'll just wait until the stock bulbs actually go out to mess with them.

Yes you need to remove the rear bumper to access the backup lights. It's a one piece unit, you unplug the bulb socket from the lamp housing, then remove the bulb from the socket base and replace with a led bulb seperated from its base (see OP).

Note - you don't have to do all the steps in this link, just the ones to remove & replace the rear bumper. Once you remove the rear bumper you don't need to remove the rear bumper wiring harness as you'll have access to the back of the light housing.

Reverse lights will take years to go out haha. You only use them for about 10 seconds a day.
