LOL, 3rd oil change at 2957.

Tell me more about the tunnel brace. How much was it? Where did you get it? How was the install? Can you tell the difference? If so, how, when? Does it allow room for a 3" mid pipe?

They run about $99. Got mine from Apex Motoorsports. The current tunnel brace is just a flat piece of steel. I havent really noticed a difference but it is made to allow the 3" mid pipe

Yes I am on my 3rd oil change, 1st was just after 500 miles (added a magnetic drain plug), then about 1500 miles which was about 8 months later, then the latest was at the 10 month mile mark. I also sent in the oil for analysis so I am waiting to get that back to see how it held up.

I'm sure your M1 held up just fine with a 1500 mile OCI. You'll still have some elevated metals but as frequently as you're changing, it certainly won't be worth worrying about.

I'm taking advantage of the no charge oil changes at the dealer. Four will save me about $165 in parts then I'll start doing my own. I did the first at 1000. They are using "Dexos" in these now which I interpret to mean AC Delco semisynthetic which is fine during breakin's shorter intervals. I've got 2000 on the clock now and will go to 4-5000 before I change it again. With an 8 quart sump, this engine should have no problem going to 0 on the OLM with a good synthetic.

Dexos is a specification and most major off the shelf oil including Mobil 1 meets the dexos standard.

Understood. My point was, the Dexos specification allows dealers to use a much lesser oil than M1. I believe the older SS's said "Mobil1" on the oil fill cap suggesting dealers had to use 8 quarts of this more expensive product. If you look at the approved list of Dexos oils, you understand that this certification is nothing special, i.e., any Tier One 5W-30 will meet it, syn, semi-syn or Dino.
