Sounds like the HUD module is on the outs. There have been a few members posting up similar issues. After HUD unit replacement, all good.

I just took mine to the dealer and he said he would contact Chevrolet to see if there was a software update to fix the issue. One hour later he came out and told me he has to replace my display. I have to bring it back Friday to have the new HUD installed.

UPDATE

Took mine to the dealer today. The module is bad. It's covered under warranty. They'll order a new one and put it in when I get back front the Fest.

Question 1st post and HUD problem/question.

Hello, I have enjoyed this great site since I purchased my 2013 2 SS RS at the end of March. I want to thank all of you for your help on answering the many questions that I had. I could always find the answers here. I have learned the proper way to detail my Camaro, where to purchase needed supplies and parts, how to use all the "extras" that the Gen 5 includes, and to wave, LOL. I love my Camaro it's looks, ride, etc. My first car was a Gen 2 1979 Camaro (new) then after kids I had 3 Blazers, 1985, 1992, 2003 Trail (used) then my dream car the 2013 Gen. 5. It took me a week to get used to the Camaro seats after driving the Trail Blazer for so long. LOL

So my question: I just don't know what to do? After about one month of driving my Camaro about 1'000 miles my HUD did the fading in and out thing that has been described on this forum by many. It only did it once and only on my way to work. After work it was fine. I also had my blue tooth go out one day and it also came back and neither problem has ever came back. However when I look at the reflection of the HUD in the windshield there is a protective film that I can see and part of it is starting to pull away so that I can see a diagonal line reflection moving toward where the speed is displayed. To fix the problem I simply put pressure on the left corner of the plastic HUD cover in the dash. But it is only fixed for about 5-10 mins. Yesterday I took my Camaro to the dealer for it's first oil change (I get free ones) and to try to get an answer on the HUD. I thought it would just be a simple fix of pulling up the HUD trim piece and adding some sort of pressure plastic to the film replacing the trim and finished. But service said GM recommends pulling the dash. That is something I did not want done especially after watching the video on how the Camaros were built and the fact that it weighs 200lbs. The service man said they pull dashes all the time. He also said my HUD is the first that they have seen with that problem. I told him I would have to research it or call GM. He said they will tell me the same thing he said pull the dash?? I read a thread on here where the service tech was able to fix HUD in 3 hours with his hand by not pulling dash. Any thoughts would help me with my decision. Thanks, Bob

Here is a video of mine fading out. It did it after waiting in a parking lot for my wife at 100 degrees with the car running. May be heat with idling related.
I tried to upload a video but it said I was missing a security token. sorry. Just fades away.

I've pulled the dash. I have even had a 2012 style shipped to me. The dash itself is only about 30lbs. With the hud, and the airbag, the dash weighs more, but not that much more.

It was more bulky than anything else. I can assure you that if they pull the dash, there was no squeeks or rattles from us doing that.

Thank you skuttduck! This is the first really nice new car that I ever had so I am just worried that's all. I don't want one problem to lead to many more by my poor decisions.

Just dropped my car off to the dealership. They have hooked me up with a nice Loaner Vehicle (2014 Impala) for the time period.

Update: I got the car back today from the dealership. They did find a MyLink software update and were able to get it installed for me, however they were not able to recreate the issue and therefore were not able to come up with a probable fix. The replacement was out of option as they were not able to re-create the issue or see it first hand. So for now I have my radio updated and everything on my HUD documented. Hopefully next time it happens I will be able to drive it right in to the dealership and have them take a look at that. :(

Pmandeep, they replaced my HUD display last Friday but I haven't driven the car enough to know if the problem is fixed. I will keep you posted. I will say that the new HUD is a lot brighter than the original.
