my lil brother got the same exact ticket the night he rolled his s-10 on I55. as the tow truck was rolling it back upright, the cop wrote him up a ticket for "improper lane usage". WTF does that mean anyway?

anyway, glad to hear you're still alive. when i saw those pics for the first time i feared the worst

Let us know what the black box says, I'm sure your insurance will want to look into that.

I was told (don't know for sure) that a ticket is issued in a single car accident for documentation. If you damaged a fence, guard rail, (tree), then either the DOT or an individual can get your insurance to pay to repair/replace damaged property.

As most everyone here has said, glad you're pecking away at the keyboard and wish you a speedy and pain-free (as much as possible) recovery.

Glad to see you survived. Those are usually fatal. You owe some to GM and whomever you believe in as the tree being one foot to the drivers side would have probably been fatal. As far as the accident details, the reconstruction will answer your questions of what happened. The black box dump will help with that also.

To all the cop bashing, calm down. Almost every dept will cite on an injury accident of that magnitude. This is mostly from idiots (or their surviving family members) that try to sue the city/county/state afterwards for improperly designed roads or some other moronic thing, rather then take responsibility. Also, people call all the time to complain that the driver that hit them didn't get cited, so you start citing the fault driver automatically. None of you were there and none of you did the crash investigation. He got cited for being on the wrong side of the road. Which would have been the mildest citation probably available for a crash of that magnitude. He could just have easily killed someone coming the other direction.

Anyways, best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I don't care if you deemed it a violation of the law because he could have killed someone head on by falling asleep or whatever... it is what it is. Sometimes mercy needs to be shown.
When I had my accident, the cop apparently wasn't going to ticket anyone, then came to the hospital later saying his supervisor told him someone had to be charged with something. So I got a ticket for reckless driving, but I wonder if the cop who issued the ticket did that since, in NC, you have to be able to prove that you were intentionally driving recklessly. So my ticket got dropped.

Dude, I am sooooo sorry to hear about this. Be glad your still with us! The car can be replaced. You, if totaled, can not! Who ends up with the remains of your car? I’d love to buy the black carpet to swap out with my gray carpet.

Yeah, she was pretty freaked out as she was the first car to pull over for the accident. She said her first priority was to get to me to see if I was ok, which they had to bust out the windows to do. Then once they were getting close to getting me out she was afraid to see me because she didn't know how bad of shape I would be in.

I think somehow they got the door off and got me out.

I definitely want one, as one day with mine definitely wasn't enough. I will have to see if it makes sense financially after all my hospital bills come in.

I did call On-Star, and somebody is supposed to be contacting me, but I have no clue what information they will be able to provide. Anybody know if they can tell the speed at impact or anything like that?

DUDE!! Is the tree ok??? I'm just kidding man, that's horrible... Good that you're alright, the Camaro looks like a fatality. I guess the safety features do what they're supposed to, just sucks to find out this way... I'm guessing the car was covered right? Are you gonna go with black again?
