I don't drive the Camaro in the winter. In MI with the salt on the road everything rusts to fast. That being said it is sitting in the driveway in front of the garage covered in snow right now. I have an 18 by 40 foot garage and can't fit it in there yet. The Harleys and welders and tools take up a lot of space. Maybe this weekend it will make it into the garage we will see. But it for sure won't be driven on the street until the first couple of spring showers wash away the salt (the same for the Harleys).

I garage my car as well. It isn't my DD, so I rarely drive it. But, my OnStar trial period is over. I have to make the big decision soon. Does anyone here who's Camaro isn't a DD still keep their OnStar active?

Because I just got 18" of snow in two days and my 4x4 Z71 is more capable? (Scratch that... because the Z71 is capable period... the Camaro never would've made it out of my driveway)

I do not store my car it sits outside in the rain/sleet/snow. Two days ago I even drove it through 2-4 inches of snow with P Zeros on it. (find the other thread)

I have a friend of a friend who has a slighty older Camaro 2SS I believe it is a 2010-2011 and he stores his in the garage and says it he has not even touched the windshield wipers. He not only does not drive it in any thing that is not sunny, he barely drives it period.

Why?

This is my only car that I have ever owned. I saved up the money for it and I want to drive the hell out of it.

A couple months ago I went to a Cars & Coffee near me (Katie's in DC) and there was a Red GT-R I respected so much because he had brake dust all over his wheels dirt all on the low parts of the body. You could tell he drove the heck out of his $100k car.

BUT then you have $30-40k-ish Camaro's being garage kept?

I guess I just do not see the point of a Camaro less than a ZL1 being garage kept and not driven more. (I cannot be alone right? lol)

Please do not think I think negatively of you if you garage keep your Camaro. I respect everyone's decision even if I do not agree with them.

#1 I have a garage to keep it in, so I do
#2 not everyone got a v6, some of us have rediculous amounts of power to try and go anywhere bad weather. It DOESNT HAPPEN. The slightest incline in snow and you're SOL. Sometimes it's just NOT SAFE. And I'd rather not risk my $40k car which I have another $35k sunk into just to be seen in snow. Pass.
#3 I trust NOONE. So it won't sit out unless it has to
#4 it's not my only car so if I can spare it from the salt and rock cinders pa loves to slather all over the road then I will avoid driving it through a sandblaster.
#5 I want to ftw
#6 when I wash it I want it to stay clean when I'm not cruising in it
#7 when I do drive it (which is all summer) I drive the piss out of it no questions asked.

Drive mine daily but I ain't bragg'in about it. Had to buy my kid a beater so he wouldn't 'beat' on mom's ride (the Camaro's not an option for him). While I could swing another heap, living in the state with the 2nd highest insurance rates made it out of the question. With the snow tires, ABS, stabilitrak and traction control the Camaro's far more competent than the RWD cars I drove long ago, but would love to leave it in the garage for this spell of hell we call winter.

Still fun to drive, just ALOT more enjoyable when it's not frozen out...

Stop using common sense and sound logic! Some people frown upon that.

For some of us it's our joy ride that we can't dd. I can't fit two car seats in the back so I get it out when I can. For me there's no reason why I can't have something nice for myself. If other people want to drive their 100,000 dollar super car in the snow by all means but for me this is my super car that I was extremely lucky to purchase and probably will not be able to afford until the kids are moved out and draining my account for "books" while in college.

I get anxious/sad for my car when I let my wife drive it to her work here and there now. I started last month to cut down on cost since I have a 100 mile commute in Los Angeles Traffic versus her 30 mile commute. But I'm not anxious/sad because of her driving skills (she drives pretty good lol), its because I am not able to drive it :/ Good thing is I'm almost at 84k and I have driven this mug the way it should be. I guess I'll keep driving my car 3 days a week versus 7 days like before until I free up enough cash flow for my new business in the near future.

I plan on having my Camaro for a long time and never selling it or trading it in. If I treat it like crap and don't properly take care of it, it won't be in such good condition 20 years from now with 100k miles on it. I want it to last as long as possible with the least amount of headaches down the road. Not only that, but $40k is still a lot of money. Yes there are cars out there that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, but a lot of us can't afford that and have to be grateful for and respect what we have.

Why drive it if you don't have too.... Simple as that.

If I lived in Cali, Texas, Arizona, FL, etc it would be easy to drive it all year. (I would still have a truck though too since I need to hunt, haul stuff for the house etc)

But here in the snowbelt... a lot of winter days it just isn't an option... Plus you need another set of wheels and tires to use it in the cold anyway.

Here are the thoughts of a proud new 2014 owner.

If I can safely drive it I will. I have worked a long time to have this car and it would kill me to walk past it every morning and get into some beater. Now having said that I have a 5 year loan and I believe I can still have a very nice car in 5 years if I take care of it and then maybe I would buy another once this one is paid off to make into a "garage queen" while I continue to DD this one

Wife's 2012 Honda Odyessy is like brand new after almost two years and that gets very little care / washing....
