I am FULLY stocked with all the tools for this one THAT is for sure...

And all the suspension mods while I was @ it (what wife thought about all my 'necessary' tools )

It helps to have been beatn' up once to know what to 'avoid' the next time ;o)

I log those temps weekly just so I can keep track of what my mods do to the car.

I initally thought it was the headers, but now, I'll keep an eye on it and see if those temps hold true after a week.
Well, its not next week, but the temps remained lower today also. Looks like that wil be the trend -- mid 90's yesterday and today...

All looks good with the ATI pulley. I've packaged the defective TSP pulley up and its on its way to TSP for review.

I hope to hear @ some point from TSP on what they found that caused the defect. My hope is its just a fluk.

Probably so, but at least they can go through their stock and yank any remaining defective ones if they're there.

Yes. Should be by lot number I would think. As loose as this one was, it could have been much worse.

Well, I thought I'd update everyone.

Contacted TSP right after my last post on the 24th and asked what they wanted to do for me -- still waiting to hear back. As far as a refund -- still waiting on that too. I guess it takes a while to get the paperwork and review of the failed pulley done. Now, I'm not sure where the delay is, but I would have expected some 'expedited' service.

Will let everyone one when it happens... I'm sure everything is 'in the mail'...

Hehe.. they're probably busy and you're low priority. That's the way it goes a lot of times. Thanks for the update.

An aftermarket balancer such as ATI is required at the dragstrip once you start running certain times. It's a safety thing. Stock balancers are not designed for high RPM use like the aftermarket balancers are. Aftermarket balancers have a rating by testing labs to certify them as being safe for competition.

It's the same as the requirement for having a scattershield to replace the stock clutch bellhousing once you start running certain times. I've been in a car when a clutch came through the floorboard. It IS NOT a fun experience. Ask "Big Daddy" Don Garlits how he lost part of a foot and he'll tell you a clutch took it off.

Personally, I would be calling an engineer at ATI. Deal with THE SOURCE.

ATI balancer is what he used to fix the car. The TSP Underdrive pulley is what failed.

Ahhh, I was REALLY in a quandary about the ATI balancer. I've run them for years, even had them rebuilt (how cool is that?)

Thanks for clearing that up. As they CAN be rebuilt, I've never seen an ATI balancer come apart unless it was being taken apart. I HAVE seen stock balancers blow the hoods off cars, cause cranks to bend/break, and crack blocks. It's not pretty nor cheap when it happens.

Sadly, I've seen many a cammed DZ 302 motor blow stock balancers to pieces when twisted tightly. Shrapnel wounds to bystanders can carry serious liability.

Snidely's tip of the day: if'n you plan on revving up your Chevy LS, invest in a good balancer, your motor will thank you.

The last tip I gave was to invest in a quality scattershield if you're running a manual tranny hard. Don Garlits lost part of a foot due to a clutch exploding through the floorboard.
