Thanks, I think I'll head over to the dealership this week to see what can be done.

There is another forum on here that talks about the inserts that go in place of where the key should be. The part number that I got from that forum is 23345002. I went to the dealer and they didn't know what I was talking about, so I gave them that part number. They looked it up and found them, and it was about $37 for me to buy it. Whats weird is that each kit comes in its own package, but there are no part numbers on them. So I ended up with 5 sets for that price. Now I've got 4 sets left.

I reckon I could! just pay shipping and you can have a set. PM me an address so I can find out how much shipping is. It shouldn't be more than a couple bucks.

Just pull the key out of the rubber cap on the end with a little heat and reinstall the key in the fob. That'll fill the slot and make the fob a flip key again. I did it to mine so I don't have crap hanging down from my key.

Yeah, you could take the key out of the black plastic housing and put it back into the key fob.
I'm going to pick up a key fob and get them cut. Then I'll have both these along with the switchblade key. I found them for about $30. Programming them is a piece of cake. Cutting the key, I haven't looked into that very much yet, but from what I've read so far its between being free and $20 - depending on where you go. |

Why return it? I still have my fob set? Recall on a key? Pffft. That's like recall on a shift knob cause the shift pattern on the knob is not straight in line with the center of the car lol

Dealer failed at first. Corporate fixed it.
I decided to do the key fob recall because of the information I got from a very informative post:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=415950 I have the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with Five Star Chevrolet here in good old Warner Robins, Ga. They have a terrible reputation as a dealer and service department. They are mostly not too helpful, and they will argue with you about service and parts when you clearly show your research (more later). When I asked to do the recall, they asked to have my car for the whole day with both keys. Fine. I did it. I gave them the TSB so that they could get the inserts. They promised they would look into it. The first photo is the result of what happened. They cut two new keys, and they only pulled the key out of the fob I handed in when I told them the second one was in the cupholder. The fight began: .They kept arguing with me that it is only a TSB, and they won't do it. Then, the parts department said I would have to buy two at $35 a piece. I told them what you guys found out, and they still argued. At that point, I decided that I don't even want to ask to fix my keys. I left. After a calming couple of days, I contacted GM Corporate. The service manager called me eventually as I told GM that I do not want to call the manager myself. Behold, he ordered the parts, and the second photo is how it finally turned out. He claimed that they used to have the parts when the recall came out, but no one asked for it. Hence, they sent them back. That was the excuse. He had no idea how it would look or how to install until I was the one to ask. I am happy with how my keys finally look, but no one should have to go through this. As you guys helpfully pointed out, the dealer should do this without question since you are doing the recall and making them money at the same time by going in. I hope this helps in making your decision. I only did it because I know that button eventually wears out, and the key blade will pop out and stay out. I want to do something like this for another car I have with the switchblade key. Yes, it is an Autobot because that is my car's theme. My Saturn (may she rest in piece) was the previous one. I have posted a couple of pics as she is my Camaro's predecessor. The water pump gave, drained my engine, and it seized. She is now my driveway ornament. |

Am I missing something? I know it's been posted a lot before, but why not just put the key back in the fob and be done with it. Buy a huge assortment of roll pins at Harbor Freight for about 5 bucks, tear the plastic off the key, stick in a roll pin that fits (there's a few of them in the assortment), and you have your working keyfob and no dangling key. I think it took 5 minutes at the most.

When my dealer called about the recall they said, "Your new keys are in. We really need to complete this recall."
So I tripped over there, they used the FOB to program and handed me two new keys. FOB came back intact.
