Yes. There have been posts and articles (such as beating the Z/28 at Laguna Seca) stating exactly that.

Well that sucks. I would love to know the contributing factor. weather conditions, Randy's mood. Something is up. I run with a 2017 SS 1LE and he is close... he is a better driver, with many more years experience and he close to me but not faster.

I guess I am happy the Camaro is doing so well.

I wouldn't say it sucks - the 6th gen is a completely different platform. It SHOULD be competitive with the best of the previous generation, otherwise it wouldn't be seen as an improvement.

With that said, I'm not about to run out and buy an SS 1LE.

The 6th Gen 1LE is a great car. I like the interior of the 6th gen a little better but I like the looks of the 5th Gen Z/28 a lot better.

And the LS7 vs the LT1 is a no-brainer.

I will say that the performance of the SS 1LE and the ZL1 1LE sets a pretty high bar in my mind for what a 6th gen Z/28 should be capable of.

I expect the 6th gen Z/28 to punch well above it's class in the same way that the 5th gen Z/28 was.

I think it was a marketing stunt. I have my suspicions about Motortrend and some of their "tests". The Car and Driver lightning lap has been pretty good since it started and it gives consistent data every year. If there are any reasons a car would run faster or slower they state it clearly and keep it on record. For example, the 2013 1LE test, they ran the car on mostly worn stock tires. Tires make a HUGE difference and the Supercar 3 is a very good tire but it still isn't even close to the Trofeo R and that kind of tire difference is always going to go in the favor or the car with the stickier tire and more horsepower. VIR and Laguna Seca are very different tracks but with the exception of the corkscrew there isn't anything that would help a lower power car with less sticky tires. I'd also imagine that the dssv shocks, stiffer springs, and actual downforce would handle that quick transition with some weightlessness better. Back to the tires, with similar tires it would be pretty close but how many hard laps can the 1LE go with r comps and track pads before the brakes give you the middle finger? That's the big difference, the Z/28 was designed to lap all day long with no issues, the 1LE was designed to go a few times a year and be a great street/track compromise that performs better than anything even close to its price range. When I push my 15 1LE really hard and try to hang with the local GT3RS I have 5 laps before my brakes go to the floor and I poop myself. The new 1LE has better brakes but they still aren't designed to handle extended lapping sessions. The 1LE is an amazing car but any way you look at it, it's a street car first. The Z/28, on the other hand, put track performance first with a few little extras for street comfort if you wanted it, it will always be the better car on the track.

Thats what I say about the ZL1 and the Z06. i think on a 105 degree day in a 30 min session the average lap time on the Z28 will be faster then the other two. I bought a car that can run all day, full out. I know for a fact the GT500 goes 3 laps all out, 3 laps cool down, 2 laps all out, 3 laps cool down.

I have yet to prove my theory on the the ZL1 and Z06.

I feel there has never been a better time to be a camaro owner then right now, and i say that after owning 8 camaros over 35 years.
On another note i have read the 2017 1Le ss camaro tied the lap time of the Z28 at GM's milford proving grounds.
Getting back to the topic , i always felt there should have been a Z28 from the start going back to 2010. Right now i think Chevy wants to put time between the Gen 5 Z28 and the next Z28 ,, i highly doubt there will Gen 6 Z28 .

The Stevenson Z28.R won the Continental Tire championship and it was essentially the street version w/ metal suspension bushings, a de-tuned engine and sans CCBs.

Enjoy your 1LE. It'll be a very small footnote in the Camaro legacy. Not knocking it, just calling it the way I see it.
