GMRS = General Mobil Radio Service; operates on channels 1-7 & 15-22 on most radios and this option can transmit in hi & lo modes increasing range.

FRS = Family Radio Service; operates on channels 1-14 with 8-14 being exclusive to FRS; operates only on lo power hence lower range

The exclusivity of the FRS channels is important b/c in the US you technically need a license to use the GMRS channels whereas FRS you do not. In Canada no license is required for either.
Some brands use different channel numbering systems but the 1-22 range is motorola and seems pretty common.
In order to communicate with a group, obviously everyone needs to be on the same channel. But in addition to this everyone must have the same Interference Eliminator code (kinda like a channel within the channel). Not all radios have this feature - so if that's true in our group then we just set this one to 0 (zero).
That's about it. Other fancy features vary by brand and are largely there to annoy you. I just realized that my radios can be charged through a mini USB plug so I can charge them through the center console if needed
Seems like it doesn't matter what advertised range you have, someone always complains that the range sucks. So TJ... you need to keep up
GMRS Motorola on sale at Canadian Tire this week (March 12-18)
Reg: $119.99 Sale: $69.99
See Clearance Days flyer at the bottom of the webpage.

p.s. Anyone who has long time experience with these type of radios please post personal reviews (i.e. brand, quality, actual range), there are a lot of bad reviews on the product pages.

Hi Folks, I've been lurking around here for a while and would love to have the chance to get to know some other Camaro5 people from the area. Our car was ordered Feb 8th (2SS CGM/IO 5M) We were told six to eight weeks. Should be close. We're in Burritts Rapids, 40 min southwest of Ottawa. Kingston is about an hour for us. This little gathering sounds like a perfect first outing, if the car comes in on time.

Don't put us down as confirmed but we're in if the car is here.

Rick & Karen.

That works for me. It says 3 hrs from my house but I'm plannin' a little side-trip for the GTA crew which will add some time but will be well worth it

GTA CREW: Looks like 1pm is the meeting time in Kingston. Just because straight 401 the whole way can get a bit boring.... I've got a small detour planned that should break up the monotony. I'm not going to tell what it is but according to Google it adds about an hour to the trip (I doubt it's really that much) - but well worth the effort I think. Should make for some interesting photos. If you're all game, I propose the following departure time/location:

Meeting location: Tim Hortons in the Cineplex plaza on Steeles just west of the 410 (70 Biscayne Cres, Brampton, ON‎ )

Departure time from the above: 8:00am SHARP!!

If you're late you're going to get left behind.... (I'm looking at you Dennis ) Trust Me - The early time and extra little bit of drive will be worth it

EDIT: Anyone along the 401 corridor that wants to join in you're more than welcome. Just post or PM me a meeting spot.

Ha...good catch! Should have been Feb. 8th. I've probably got April on the brain 'cause that's when we're expecting it.

Fixed the post to reduce the embarassment to manageable level.

We're not taking the 407 - no worries. Won't save any time on a Saturday anyway. I just thought that since there's so many of you in Brampton I'd come up there to meet ya's for a change. Besides, if you guys are coming down the 410 to the 401 there are limited options for meeting spots along the 401 until you get past the airport. I thought we'd avoid all that mess.

It's a secret.... but I will say this... it has more twists than the 401 (not much of a hint eh)

Hey Scott,

I'm up for a scenic route, just keep in mind that most secondary roads this time of year may not be in the best of shape, with frost heaves, sand, gravel, pot holes, water on the road from melting snow. Wait, I just described the 401, never mind.
