I cant understand the L99 haters, I will put a 2800 stall in my slow L99...Add a pair a dr's to the car and tune the trans, Wanna know what a LS3 is goona see, MY TAIL LIGHTS :o)

I like the fact the the big 3 are playing around and I expect a nastier version of a SRT8 to compete with the Z/28 and GT500..

If u really wanna whip on all 3 but a used C6 Z06 or 3rd Gen Viper GTS and mod it..
These car with the right parts will beat them all.

Pony/Muscle cars will be dead if the tree huggers get there way..
Better jump in the deep end or u will be left behind

The SRT's may only compete with the Z28 in terms of pricing. Performance-wise however, they, generally speaking, fall short of SS figures. Dodge would need to impregnate the Challenger with at least 600 horsepower to match an LSA powered Z28.

I'm skeptical of that claim.

They want to make the next Grand Cherokee SRT8 the fastest SUV ever, as rumored, of course. Also, if the updated Challenger SRT8 were to compete with a Z28, it would likely need that much power as well. Otherwise, it seems the Challenger will continue to fall in last place for the forseable future. (In terms of performance)

Im skeptical as well, but hey, if they do it, then good for them.

The only way a 6.4l chally can hang with a camaro SS or Z/28, is if it has AWD like "the fastest SUV ever"

It's gonna need a hell o a lot more than 480 to stay even close to the z28/gt500 group. More like 580.

Having owned a charger I got plenty of time behind the wheel of a Challenger RT and yes even with the super track pack the auto felt heavy. It was not as firmly planted as my L99 SS is in hard cornering situations, and I drove it for over 100 miles on a trip to san diego so it wasnt like it was just a test drive. For one yes it was peppy but it no way did it feel even to my L99 close yes but not even and I drove the car hard, and then did the same with my L99. I have driven the SRT Charger also since I am friends with several owners of Mopars and I will admit they feel actually quicker off the line than my L99 but on the top end I feel stock I would have the advantage. But I totally understand the feeling the Camaro is superior as an all around drivng experience, and on a track I know the RT stock would be left even farther behind still awesome cars though.

Are you sure it was the super track pack? that is comething that is a mid 10 intro and not only includes 3 season tires but different swaybars, shocks, ESP tuining, etc, etc. My guess is you were in the 6 speed track pack which is basically the 6 speed/LSD/nivomat shocks/speed sensitive steering. Unfortunatly there have been no tests for the STP yet so no idea what the actual improvements are numberwise. COnsidering a R/T auto with the stock 4 season crap tires can run as quick as 13.1.........

well, it is a lot cheaper than the GT400 and the supposed Z28 (which is still as real as a striped unicorn with wings chewing fruit stripe gum). The SRT starts around 42k, tops out around 46k, the GT500 starts at basically 50k and now tops out near 60k, i would expect the Z28 (imaginary car, imaginary pice? why not!) to be at least 55k for starts. You people make such a big deal about the SRT8 starting at 5k more than a 2SS, what about the GT500/Z28 starting at 8k more than the SRT? Anywho, back to your regualry scheduled program......

hmmm. this is an interesting thread.

so what i gather from all of this is, all the extra hp in the Challenger will do is close the rift that its extra weight has over the Camaro. yet the Camaro will still be faster.

however, when Ford upped the ante by giving the new 5.0 ~10 less hp than the LS3 Camaros, the fact that it weighs less than the Camaro is irrelevant because the Camaro is faster.

so no matter how much hp you have or what you weigh Camaro>everyone.

got it.

:
It is all pure speculation at this point, but how do you figure the Camaro will be faster than the 392. The SRT8 currently traps 1MPH faster than the L99, and 1.5MPH slower than the LS3. What will an additional 55HP do to this matchup? And don't give the standard BS line that the Challenger can't get the power to the wheels, we heard that crap with regarding the 5.0 and look how well that worked out.......

Obviously nothing, haven't you read the thread (or the other one about the 6.4L in gen auto)?

*edit*
Same goes for the 8 speed transmission.
