Rant.

Length requirements on papers. Guess what professors, requiring a certain length for this paper makes me roll my eyes because I know what I'll be doing the entire time I write, un-abbreviating everything, being super wordy in every sentence, and formatting the paper to hit the required length. That doesn't help me learn anything about the subject you're trying to teach me and it creates more work for you.

Just give me a topic to write about and I'll write. If it's a page, five pages, 200 pages, why do you care?

it's not csuglobal is it?

OMG graduate level courses in 8 weeks, with at least one paper due each week, with the same silly length requirements. Very intense 8 weeks not made any better by silly rules. And the "Professors" are nothing more than glorified paper graders...it's not like they have to lecture or have "office hours"...

so...I HEAR YOU Brother!

I remember that crap.. So annoying. They wouldn't even read it if it was under the length requirement.

I always had a hard time with paper lengths, both max and min. If something was supposed to be 5 to 8 pages I'd come in at 3 1/2 at first. Then I'd find a bunch more stuff that could be included and find myself at 11 pages of content.

And we got marks docked if we didn't follow proper formatting. 12 point font, standard margins, 1.5 line spacing, single blank line to separate headings/paragraphs, etc.

One of the hardest papers I ever had to do at university was in my first year and it was a summary. There was what had to be about a 20 page document that we had to go through and do a 300 word summary of it, or around 1 or 2 sentences per page. I just couldn't find enough stuff to cut out.

Thankfully by the end of things, short research/opinion papers were pretty rare. Submission lengths on project reports were still provided but they were just a guideline for the level of detail we were supposed to include. If they wanted 100 pages, they didn't care if you gave them 75 or 125. Still, lots of people were hitting the upper limits and we learned the value of appendicies. I think one group handed in a 130 page report ... with a 100 page appendix.

Note to morons: The "Fast Lane" isn't the "you better tailgate the car in front of you by 2 feet or less" lane.

It is the "you better move to the right for faster traffic as soon as you have the opportunity to do so" lane though. At least here in Florida.

It is, but during rush hour there isn't any single person that is so special that the 10,000 people in front of them in the #1 lane are going to magically disappear.

Yes, if a driver doesn't have anyone in front of them and they aren't keeping up with the speed of the car in front of them...absolutely, get the F over. But let's say for instance that there was a person "holding" up traffic, when I see the guy 2 feet behind him...i call him a moron along with the guy holding up traffic. It's just stupid to follow someone that close.

2 Seconds...isn't that what troopers or "traffic safety experts" say...??

And so, if i'm giving 2 seconds space but the car behind me is on my ass, as if I'm holding up traffic - this is the point of my comment actually, then that driver is, in fact, a moron. And in fact, if a driver is going to ride my ass, i'm just going to give 3 seconds to the car in front of me...then maybe 4 seconds, because now, especially during rush hour when sudden stops occur, i have to account for you riding my ass - I have a 4 year old in the back seat so his safety is paramount. I wish I had a sign that said "I can't go faster than the car in front of me you Fing Moron!!!"

ok, that was a fun RANT.
