I kinda prefer driving long distances by myself. No awkward silences to avoid. No discussion about when & where to eat. No surprise bathroom breaks. Nobody to rub it in when I make a wrong turn or miss an exit.

Just listen to some podcasts and/or driving music. Stop when you need to for food, fuel, or just clear your head/stretch your legs for bit (schedule a bit of time for that, btw).

One thing that I've learned is to try and get to your destination city while there is still at least a bit of day light out. After a long, possibly frustrating, day on the road you don't want to be trying to navigate a completely unfamiliar city in the dark by yourself. Much better to be on the road from 7 am to 7 pm than 10 am to 10 pm. Even if you despise mornings like I do.

You'll want to stay in the host hotel rather than some random one in the city. We arrange to get as many rooms in that hotel as possible, with a group discount. The manager never seems to understand that when Camaro5 calls and want to book the hotel, we mean the entire hotel. Then they get surprised when every available room gets booked one random winter morning for a random weekend months away.

So anyway, try and stay at the host hotel if you can. Thats where everyone will be hanging out every night, including site/event staff and GM people. GM's people stay elsewhere, but they're often out in the parking lot with everyone until the wee hours of the morning. And in the morning, its pretty funny to see the looks on people's faces who aren't with us and they see a couple hundred Camaros parked in the lot.

But if you can't get in at the host hotel, we'll have overflow (hey!) hotels lined up that should be within walking distance. I don't think we've ever run out of total hotel space, but there are always some people that prefer to book the cheapest motel in the area or have a rewards plan with a particular chain that they want to stick with or are simply introverts who want to get away from everyone at night & thats fine too.

Even if you have to spend the first day or whatever going solo, you should still be able to hook up with a Camarovan as you get closer to the Fest. No matter where it is, there will be some people between North Dakota & there.

I’m working on a review of a LED light for my YouTube channel. Already have the script ready just need to record and I’ve been waiting for it to get dark out so I can better show it’s power.

Those are good valid points on driving alone. You’re in control and no need to worry about anything you don’t want to do. Plus you’re always going to make your schedule vs being delayed by the other

DG, you're getting me pretty hyped now. You better not be doing this knowing the fest is in Georgia or something.

And from what I've noticed, the group rate tends to change each location the fest goes to. I remember one fest was like $130 a night or something. Meanwhile a different fest was $90 a month. My dad's one of the big wig's for Hilton, so 9 times out of ten it will be cheaper at a Hilton for me. But I'll keep an open mind with this fest. So excited.

I guess we're a lot more alike than I thought. I actually bought a new MacBook Air today to work on videos when I get back from this deployment. Now I need to get a camera and other accessories..

I may be a shit disturber at times, but I'm not evil.

100ish sounds right for the rates. I don't remember too well because I saw everything through an exchange rate that went from 10% in my favour one time to 25% against another.

From the sounds of things, you can probably get a better deal on your own. If you're looking to spend as little as possible because its a stretch to simply make the fest, do what you have to do. But if its because you're just extremely cheap (welcome to the club!), maybe splurge just a little to hang out with everyone. Or skip lunch for the entire week, that should more or less cover the difference.

Of course, it could work out that there will be a Hilton in the neighbourhood of the host hotel (I don't think we've ever used a Hilton as host) -possibly even on our list of overflow hotels.

I'm cheap with certain things. I appreciate knowing the location far ahead of time so I can start shopping around. Just in case the group rate ends up being high.

This may be a dumb question, but do you guys have a media pass of sorts for Fest?

Probably just Ruckus aftermarket part installs in my free time. But event coverage as a more serious thing. I use to be really into making videos. Even had a scholarship for videography. But the Air Force had already grabbed me.

Looks like I need to get that Traverse if we went to attend Fest.

Also Jordan, I rather spend the extra money to stay at the host hotel. It is wroth it trust me.

At the 2nd Fest, Phoenix, we had some professional video people there. I'm not sure what the arrangement was on that though. That was the only time I can remember anything 'official' being set up.

For several years we had a video contest for the attendees, but we dropped it due to lack of entries. Which is a shame because it was pretty cool to see those videos.

If you want to offer your services, send me a PM and we can discuss things in a bit more detail.
