Unless you are talking dual clutch transmissions like Volkswagn's Direct Shift Gearbox(DSG) or Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK).

Nope.

The GT500 uses the Tremec TR6060 like the Camaro SS, while the GT 5.0 uses a new Ford/Getrag engineered transmission called the MT-82. It has closer ratios and a shorter O/D, 5th gear is 1:1. Not ideal for highway cruising, but good for performance driving.

The shifter in the new 5.0's is very good, best I've ever experienced in a Mustang.

The O/D ratio for highway cruising as actually quite tall (there is a huge gap between 5th and 6th). With 3:31s, the run about 1900 RPM@70mph, 2150 with 3.73s.

I agree. Has to be. Or the car had a stock or bad tune..

Mine and 2 more in my same town have had zero tranny issues, but SOME are having them. The way you post it you make it seem like they're ALL having issues which isn't the case. I've also owned Cobras and earlier 5.0s, but no Shelby. loved all of them. I do agree with you on there not being much difference. But I will say that out of the M6s and autos, the L99 would be the one trailing the others performance wise. As far as the LS3, auto and M6 GT, pretty close imho..

I respectfully disagree, I rode in my buddy's stock 5.0 on the test drive and all I could think when he stomped the throttle was "WHOA" it was definitely faster than my SS but my car turns more heads any day of the week .

I finally got to run a full bolt on 5.0 with 3.73 gears this past weekend. It was even the base model meaning the lightest. With rolling starts I had a few car lengths to 120mph but we then had to let off due to coming to the end of the closed course. It was no match motor vs motor!! However, it did try to hang pretty well. We both were using street tires so we decided on a rolling start. I do realize I do have a cam and he did not. However, I also realize cams do not do much for that car.

I think the SS will take a 5.0 with the lower gears when both drivers are equal. If they have the 3.73 upgrade, the 5.0 has it all the way.

You'll excuse me if I don't believe this.............

Not on an otherwise stock car, which I took your post to mean.

where the 5.0 will shine is at a road course. The lighter body and more stiffer suspension will give the 5.0 a little more edge around a track. In a straight performance the extra liter of the camaro will have the advantage. Assuming that both cars are stock.

In my opinion, both cars are a win win.

In actuality the 5.0 has a slight edge at the 1/4 as well. Slight edge anyway and partly due to that SRA suspension..

The V6 that ran that high 11 was untuned and with simple mod's! And it was 125 shot not 150. Imagine if he was tuned ! And he had slicks!
