Not on an otherwise stock car, which I took your post to mean.

There is no way a simple 150 shot with basic boltons is going to put a 5.0 into the 9s unless that car has been completely gutted and weighs around 2800 lbs.

There is no way that a stock suspension car will get in the 9's no matter what car it is. Hell I was still in the 13's with a cam and all and then I started messing with suspension and I am almost in the 11's now. Power means nothing unless you are getting it to the ground. And I think since the Camaro 5 has more average drivers because of its mass appeal you are seeing them go slower at the track then say the hardcore drivers which tend to go torwards the lighter 5.0L! Those are just my .02 cents

In my opinion, both cars are a win win.
Don't believe all that you read, to anything less than a very good or professional driver it's a terrifying car at speed on a track. I've seen very few Mustangs at track days for that reason. And I've seen several that show up for one lap and leave. Its suspension is actually more suited for the quarter mile.

Wrong. I'm anti-mustang, but a guy that works with has a new 5.0 that runs 10.30@131 on low boost with just a couple bolt ons and a supercharger. Stock suspension. He's currently upgrading injectors so he can up the boost to get in the 9's. It won't be long

The 3.31 equipped cars have actually been the fastest so far. The 3.73s require too much shifting and spin a lot down low.

Considering the GT500 doesn't run that kind of times, and it's a factory supercharged motor, I'd say he's got more than a couple bolt ons...

Adding to that, at some point the power being put down overpowers the tires/suspension and can't launch properly. Was a problem among many the Terminator Mustangs at one point if I recall......

The 03-04 cobra had IRS. The solid rear in the 5.0 is very well suited to drag racing. A set of lower control arms, if they're necessary at all, will keep the car extremely planted on a set of drag radials. I don't know about 9s, but there was one on svtp that ran 10.4s with a 150 shot and some other bolt ons, on the stock suspension and stock converter on slicks @ 130mph.

edit: found it

You guys just have to keep in mind that a solid rear owns the strip and because of this, the 5.0s are going to ET considerably quicker than counterparts with IRS and similar traps. I get outlaunched by solid rear v8s on drag radials and I consistently cut 1.6X 60's.

Just FYI the 5.0 with the factory applied blower runs equal if not better times than a stock GT500..

The stock 5.0 is nearly equal to the new M3 in the roadcourse and way ahead of a stock SS. On the straight line, is equal or slightly better than the stock SS. Period.

I guess the 3.31 allows them to hook better. Once moving, I found that the 3.73 version keeps up a bit better. Interesting to know though.

You said his 5.0 ran 12.9 with "bolt ons and a tune."

My L99 A6 ran 12.9 "tune only." on a mild weather day. So don't cut your L99 short. The L99s need a good tune.

Second.
I ran 12.16 @ 114 mph (bolt ons only) with 20" drag radials. I should be able to run 11.7s - 11.8s with the addition of my converter.

Bolt ons + 150 shot should definitely be deep in the 10s with a tire that hooks.
