Kid Rock is the epitome of the stereotypical Camaro owner. Bullseye...if you're trying to reinforce the stereotype.

This is the only fail I see in this particular promotional stunt.

But it will still sell cars because it appeals to certain segment of the population. So win.

As to positive marketing...I don't know. If it sells cars, is it positive?

While I don't have feelings for Kid Rock any particular way, it's interesting to see the reactions here. Frankly it doesn't matter to me which celebrity got the car, it simply was a smart way for GM to do some marketing to his fans. I think the OP's point here was just to point out "Look, there's our Camaro at a Kid Rock concert" more than to make a statement about celebrities getting free cars and if they are deserving of them. Maybe I'm stating the obvious...

yeah, and this is the message my teenage brain (whatever is left if it) is receiving.

don't study or work a day in your life, just stay home stoned out of your mind and learn to play a guitar, get in trouble and you will get to have sex with beautifull girls and get a camaro on your birthday, then when/if you are rich and famous just give a couple of millions to a charity or "give back to the community" and you will be labeled a hero.

or

go to school, study so you can get into a good college with a good sports program then work hard, workout so yo can make the team, stay out of trouble so you can get picked to a good NFL team and once there work even harder so you can go to the superbowl and win the MVP, then you will marry a supermodel you will get a camaro and will be a hero.

so a good a marketing ploy? not to me is not!!!

The people attending that concert were there to see Kid Rock because they like him and his music. I'll bet they cheered furiously when he got his Camaro. Now they associate the Camaro with their "hero." If you're trying to sell Camaro's, tell me how that's not genius. This has nothing to do with who the celebrity is or how they got there, it's about selling cars. Marketing 101.

Others from the "poor working masses" cry out in cynicism and envy at the good fortunes of others.

By their posts and photos on this forum, it is obvious that many here have displayed their life style for all to see, and by doing so, it could be said that we are all living in the proverbial "glass house". But as the song says, "Ain't nobody's business but their own".

Kid Rock? I don't know Kid Rock from a pet rock. I hear his songs and for the most part I like some of them. He's a recording star and that's it.

So, who gets to step out of that glass house and cast the 1st stone?

I'm looking at it from a standpoint of being a GM fan. Kid rock has openly flaunted smoking pot. Even sang about doing drugs. If he's not, then he wants us to believe otherwise.

I do not do anything criminal. At most I occasionaly speed. That's about it. I don't judge. My comments were strictly from a GM and marketing stand. When I run a multi Billion dollar company then I'll be an expert, but until then, I'm not. I'm just a guy on a internet forum giving my opinion. And in my opinion, it looks bad in that jone pic, with him sitting on top of the car. It brings all of what I said to the fore front. It looks disrespectfull and crappy. I'm just commenting on that picture.

If I were a GM marketing guy, I'd be cringing with that picture out there.

no offense to anybody but...

60-70% of the people attending that concert are smelly penyless hippies that if they get any money is for his/her next fix or to buy more tickets for Kid Rock's concerts, who are they marketing the car to?, the 40-30% that might be able to afford it?

give it to a student that has lots of student loans to pay, or to a strugling family that needs it, that would be a better marketing campaing, not giving a brand new car to a filty rich, filty "celebrity"

You know it's really nice that Cheverlot gavve him a new Camaro , someone like him, Jay Leno gets new stuff from Chevrolet . These people can BUY all the cars they want. I've talked to Chevrolet for a donation for a non profit and I get WE ARE BROKE, talk to your local dealers that are broke too and see if they will help.
Sorry for being ugly but after a while it kind of sucks !

No offense but WERE YOU THERE? I was and there were no "smelly hippies around me. As a matter of fact, I thought it was a pretty good looking crowd. Who did the study to give you your numbers? Talk about profiling...

For the people that seem to think a public forum about expressing opinions you should say only positive things then you should go stick your head back in the sand.

I for one know why they give millions to this cause etc. It is called a tax break.

I personally dont think it was a good idea. But hey it is my opinion and if you dont like it then I am sure you are going to whine about it hence the whole purpose of this forum.

I personally think the car looks like ass. I think if GM wanted to actually do something like give a car away I am sure there are more deserving people.

-end rant

This is almost as good as a knock-down drag-out over which car is better. Funny how people are so divided over this Kid Rock thing. I'm indifferent personally but there are clearly some folks with strong feelings about this. Damn smelly hippies, send'em to Vietnam I say...

My comments stem around that one pic of Kid Rock sitting on the car looking like that.

Give a car away and he jumps up on the hood and sits on like that. Just looks bad to me.

Key words 'To Me'
