The main part of the intake sits behind the core support so it is not exposed directly to any water coming in through the grille. The air deflector that extends down about 6" (I think) from the intake and sits between the radiator and the core support directs air upwards towards the intake. I suppose it might possible for the air deflector to get hit by horizontal rain entering the grille at high speeds but it does sit pretty far back under the front fascia so I wouldn't be concerned.

When I asked initially about rain and water getting into the intake, I was told they haven't had any issues on the other test V6 that's been running for nearly 30k miles with various versions of the intake. Honestly, I'd be more concerned with water issues if I had chosen one of the long tube Injen kits than I would be with the Vararam intake.

Wow, the duct only drops down 6" and works? Most go to the bottom of the radiator or close to pickup the air off the airdam to do any good at speed. Very interesting.

Waiting for dyno and official pricing! Hope it sells soon, that Injen CAI keeps looking more and more tempting the longer I wait for this one!

when is vararam's deadline for this rnd so we can kinda have an idea of when to expect this. I have to remind myself everyday that vararam is coming for v6 for me to not jump on injen or CAI. Tax refund is almost here and im planning to transform my fat girl even tho I was not going to mod anytime soon.

Just thinking out loud here, but if they are still tuning/tweaking this to squeeze out every last drop of performance, why not just throw it on the dyno? How do they know if they've made any performance improvements without a dyno run?

since we are thinking out loud here.... without a dyno, with the hood closed, they really won't know if there is a performance improvement.... We all know what happens when you start trusting butt dynos...

That being said there are probably enough people that will buy it simply because it's Vararam...

Still don't understand why the top of the intake is open. Won't that mix in hot air from the engine no matter how strong the seal is from the hood being shut on top?

I'm thinking of course they have done dyno testing with this intake...how could they not have???? They just are not release anything until it is final....I wouldn't either.

I never really thought of this, but I'd say I agree. Never know until I can inspect one myself, but you'd think the ideal setup would be to have some kind of a cover and latches shut on the top...this way it is still easy to inspect/remove the filter if need be.

I'd be willing to accept 0-60mph times vs. a dyno in the interim to gauge improvement. Should be easy to do and cheap.
