Not to be a smart ass but... who cares?
The Mustang is still a Ford! Wouldn't have a Ford... unless it was free. Then again I'd probably sell it and get a Camaro.

When will Ford start to put the MT-82 in the GT500 to replace the Tremec as a cost saving if this China box is bulletproof?

I was at San Antonio Raceway last Saturday night for Midnight Madness. It was very intriguing that there was 1 5th gen Camaro there, convertible, that didn't run.
Plenty of 4th gen. Camaro and T/A's there...some that ran good and others that didn't. Bring 'em out. I am tired of all the shit talking and no action..... BTW - We saw plenty of them at Cabelas on the way down.....is it all about standing around staring at other peoples cars or where the rubber meets the road? |

I have only seen one 5th gen Camaro at the track (Sacramento Raceway) actually racing vs the 8-10 2011+ Mustang GT's and GT500's I've seen just this season. In fact most every 5.0L or GT500 owner I talk to in person have taken it to the track vs the 5-10% of 5th gen SS owners I run into that have. Even the modded C6 Z's I was running at the track that I was talking to were worried about breaking their IRS and or clutch/ trans when I brought up putting a serious set of drag radials under it or spraying their forged bottom end. They were all still in the high 11's but at least they were out there having fun, because its really the only way to enjoy these 500-600hp car's and not have to worry about a trip to jail every time you feel like going WOT for a few seconds. ![]() I think its cool when an intake, exhaust 5.0L with an automatic and dr's is able to get the win against modded C6 Z's every time down the track because the Z owners are afraid of breaking if they have a dead hook with stickies. They were actually jealous of my SRA, especially once I told them it pulls 1.0g and posts better lap times then a GS at VIR.

The 4th gen owners are not afraid to push their cars. One blew the rear. I had a friend blow the front seal on his Trailblazer SS and rode home in a tow truck. I can respect that because they are out there giving it their all. I spoke to one 4th gen. owner for 30 min. about GNX and T-Type Buick's. Great time and brought back a ton of memories when I used to race my '85 Fox bodied coupe. I could care less what a person drives. I enjoy any car and owner who are willing to lay it out. I despise those who talk crap and back it up with hot air. How did the get together with the 5th gen owner who has outrun all those 2011+ 5.0's but never lined up with them go? |

In defense of the 5th gen.....
I push my car to it's limits on the track and the street. My output shaft snapped while trying to push the car into the 11's after numerous 12.1 @ 116 mph passes. The output shaft didn't care for a 3K clutch dump on DRs. The following week I threw a rod..... I will agree that the guys out there tracking 5th gens are the minority and not the majority, but cut those of us who are out there running these things to their limits a little credit will ya! |

I think I remember pushing you to get a set of dr's but you were afraid of breaking the IRS. So are you beefing up your engine/ trans/ IRS to run 11's or just getting it back on the road to trade for a ZL1? P.S Is the output shaft any different on the SS then my GT500, because I thought we had the same trans but I've never head of the output shaft being a problem even on 800 hp Supersnakes? |

The engine is staying stock internally until the warranty on the engine expires ( 24 months ) so at this point, it's going to be a full bolt on car only. After the 2 years is up, I'll either mod it again or trade up to a ZL1 or Z06. GM just got a bunch of output shafts that weren't heat treated properly in the Camaro. It's very rare to hear about a 25K plus VIN busting an output shaft. |

It sucks to break especially at the track. I have been fortunate so far. Good luck on the new build. |

Possible I may be at TAD this coming Friday. I may run but my interest lies in helping a fellow 5.0 owner home on leave from Irag. You coming out?

![]() That place is the ghetto of tracks. I can now say I have run a few passes there and have no plans to go back. SAR is much better. Best pass was a 11.75@117 with a DA of 2,800' and driving sideways down half the track. There wasn't a single 4th or 5th gen that ran even close to that. 12.5's and up for those guys. Helped a 4th gen owner change some DR's as he forgot his tools. There were 3 5.0 Mustangs there, 1 5th gen that ran and 1 that just showed up to idle. |
