Mustangs and Camaros (and even Challengers)are great cars and the rivalry between them is the stuff legends are made of. I'm just glad there's a choice of American Muscle cars again to spice things up. It's a pretty cool time to be living in. The new muscle ars are faster(in many cases), safer and get better mileage than the old school muscle cars.
The bottom line is we're all passionate car guys here and no matter what your flavor of horsepower is as long as it puts a smile on your face when you slip behind the wheel, that's what matters most. Enjoy your rides guys!!
Again a great time to be a car guy!!!Peace.

Agreed. Just like others have said. Alot of car decision are made on taste and what that person likes. I can't stand Ford products but that's me.

However, I will back up a Stang going up against a ricer. May not like Ford but its American!

It is great to see so many mustang guys in our forum. It is truely a blessing to have competition. Without it there would be no point and we could all drive toyota corollas. Muscle cars are back and stronger than ever. Chevy guys Mustang guys and even the Mopar guys have their hobbies back. Hopefully we will be able to pass on the rivalry to future generations. As far as Mustangs go it is clear that a lot of money and or mods will need to be involved to compete with a stock SS. But clearly that is half of the fun. When you guys get faster then we will have to mod up to compete or maybe a stock Z28 if the bean counters think they will sell enough. To all muscle car fans this is one of the best times in our history.....enjoy! All three are here and the world is right again. Shame the AMC cant come play too.

Everyone picks on the Mustang and Challenger guys...but they drive American too and deserve just as much respect as other Camaro guys.

At least we can all agree that Camaros, Mustangs, and Challengers murder imports.

I'm sure there are Camaro buyers who would have bought a Mustang eventually if the Camaro and Challenger had not come out.
Let's not go too far!!! Never happen here. I could never buy a Ford. I waited and waited on the new Camaro til last year, and had to break down and get an SS Impala.

To me, buying a Ford is almost as bad as buying a Honda over a Harley- blasphemy!!

But it's all good. Chevy vs Ford is back with a vengeance. I'm hoping we all look back on this era like we did the late 60's, early 70's.

thats exactly why i called it a piece of Sh^^ bcuz of its looks..i make my own decisions. MEDIA plays no part. to me it looked (as stated after this post) "like a cavalier on steroids" My opinion is the 5thGen is one of teh most amazing looking cars in a LOOONG time, my opinion teh GTO (looks wise) does not deserve the name GTO. it look s like a grand am
I RESPECT ALL AMERICAN CARS and MUSCLE CARS IN GENERAL AND THE GTO IS A POWERFUL CAR BUT IMHO THEY DROPPED THE BALL LOOKS WISE, As STATED EARLIER IT"S GREAT TO HAVE COMPETITION AND FRIENDLY RIVALRIES,
but if you ask me "YOU LIKE THE GTO?" I'll say "IT'S PRETTY POWERFUL BUT LOOKS LIKE SH^^

Given past history i'd never say the Camaro is going to trounce the Mustang. some people buy the darn things no matter what. I heard yesterday ford only sold about 90,000 last year. That's pretty scary prospects for the Camaro. The difference between 1967 and today is back then a lot of kids got jobs after high school and bought a new car. Today people don't buy a new car till they're in their mid 20's. Then they buy a sedan.
As for mustang owners freaking out. these were the guys buying 215 hp cars ten years ago instead of a Z28.
Challenger owners? who are these people? looks like a sort of clone of a first gen Camaro, except not nearly as good.

I think Ford will have to do something to the Mustang (both V-6 and V-8) in response not to lose a big chunk of the market it had cornered for so long.
No question that ford will have to step up. There is already talk of a 350+++ hp 6 cylinder and 400+ 5.0. With any luck these will sell in large enough numbers to push chevy then Chevy will push ford and we keep getting better cars.

Either way I still can't afford a cts-v.

What you don't realize is we're going to have a much broader base of bolt-ons than mustang owners - just check Summit!

We will also have bolt-ons at a lower price - ford parts have always been higher priced then GM.

We also have larger initial HP base to work from so don't get too high & mighty!

Now do you want to talk "twisties".....?

I've gotta disagree with you on that one. Economy being on scale the S197 Mustang (2005-2009) has sold upwards of 500,000 units. The aftermarket see this as a highly profitable market. There are no shortage of performance or cosmetic parts for the S197. The price for the S197 parts is higher than that of the older Mustangs and 5.0 liter Ford parts are generally cheaper than most 350 Chevy parts. That being said there is no shortage of LS3 performance parts and they are generally not any cheaper than 4.6 Ford parts. The Gen5 Camaro aftermarket will also be strong and parts prices will also be higher than the prior generation as there are fewer cars on the road(none to date) and initial R and D costs will dictate higher prices until there is more Gen5 cars on the road. For far less money than a brand new Camaro SS you could buy a 2-3 yr old Mustang with enough bolt on parts to easily out perform a Gen5 in all performance aspects and for less money than that you could but older f-body.....you get my point. But who cares this has been beat to death already.
Like you said you have a higher base HP to work with which is a big advantage. I'm not sure what the max HP you can squeeze out of a stock LS3 engine but a stock 4.6 Ford is only good for about 450-475 RWHP which is not bad for only 281 cubic inches, some guys have squeezed out more but are living on the edge of what the stock connecting rods can handle, I'm sure the LS3 will be much higher.
You mention twisties...well that's no my thing but I've got several friends with S197's that road race and do quite well. Plus if I wanted a car that handles extremely good I wouldn't bother with a Mustang or a Camaro, I'd buy a C6 Vette.

Are you kidding me?
Harleys are built for people looking to buy an image, sportbikes are built for people that appreciate performance engineering.

I hope an American company can step up and build a bike that is a worthy competitor to the japanese bikes.
Until then, anyone who buys a Harley over a japanese bike is an idiot.

If you want a beautiful piece of machinery to customize, chrome out, and ride to feel the freedom of wind in your hair, buy a muscle car convertible. If you buy a Harley, you are a cliche'.

Yeah- nothing like a little competition to get the automakers off their butt to do better! I expect Ford will have to high-tech their V-6 like Chevy did and up the horsepower on the GT Mustang to compete. AND without GG tax! That means efficiency. Six gears instead of five. Recess is over, Ford!!
