It says fully backed warranty but nothing about who or what is backing it beyond GM, which makes it rather meaningless. I've seen some stuff in the news about the government possibly backing warranties to keep people from being scared off by bankruptcy talk etc, but the anouncement in question doesn't talk about that, nor does www.gmconfidence.com unless it's hidden away somewhere.

my family has been a gm family for well over 60 years (my dad bought a 48 olds after he was discharged from the army and he drove oldsmobile almost exclusively) most of what i've driven has been gm..severa camaro's (have a modified84 presently)and i also drive heaven forbid a mercury grand marqueis.. i guess i make up for that by building a 74 chevy vega panel express into an all out drag car hopfully to run at pinks allout in the future

They're not on the hook for it. An insurance company is. GM simply buys a policy. If more people than expected lose their jobs, the insurance company takes the hit.

If it improves sales, they'll extend it. Rebates also always expire at the end of the month...then get renewed. They need people to think the incentives might go away--and sometimes incentives do end--to spur them to buy now.
