This is what Robin L. at GMPP does:

I have an open breather on one valve cover and an open port on the other valve cover of my Supercharged LSA Crate engine. I see 14 pounds of boost and rev it past 6700 RPM. I don't have any oil mist, leak or spray out of any of the vents or breathers.
... it sure would be nice to have a discussion without a sales pitch. Most of the posts in this thread are from people who sell catch cans... go figure.

If you getting a lot of oil misting through the PCV line due to piston blow-by, you probably have bigger problems.

I agree how can you get unbiased debate when the main contributers to the cause are the ones who sell the item in question.

Ive been watching these discussions for awhile and its same thing over and over. I see pictures of jacked up pistons and intake manifolds ......... wheres the comparisson?

Where is the two same automobiles before and after pics with and with out catch cans? Cabon build up on a piston can take place several ways and even still its quite normal with or with out a catch can. I have seen motors with catch cans that still have the oil film in the intake and cabon build up on the piston.

Some of you say what do you have to lose? The money you payed for the catch can if its not really doing anything. Might as well well clean the underbody of the car and oil it so it doesn't corrode out on you 100 years from now.

I look around and I can not find a single article of research proving these work or proving they dont. I see theroy, i see "success stories", but i don't see tried and proven results.

I am not saying these can not help becuase i just do not have enough evidence proving so.

If you getting a lot of oil misting through the PCV line due to piston blow-by, you probably have bigger problems.

The problem with the solution described above is this only vents excess crankcase pressure and does nothing to evacuate the harmfull combustion byproducts. It will eliminate anyy oil ingestion into the intake air charge but the accumulation of the harmfull compunds in the crankcase result in shorter engine life. Also, any open fitting/line allows unfiltered air in carring dust/dirt/moisture.etc directly into the motor. This is basically what the PCV systems of the 40's & 50's were.

On a race application we use a Moroso or Aerospace Components belt driven vacuum pump to keep the crankcase evacuated.

As for me selling cans, if you follow my threads/posts I always list the facts with reference and pictures to back it up and if my goal was just to sell cans I would not endorse direct competetors that also have good functioning products. I also have my qualifications and experiance listed earlier in this thread.....take a minute and read through them & I think you will agree I am more than a "product pusher".

I/We have developed some pretty cool products over the years....29 to date. We also race/have raced/owned and run professional race teams for years with multiple Divisional, National, and World Championsips in both NHRA & IHRA in several classes. Not the occasional track day or test & tune. We apply what we learn in winning these events to the products we develop & the information we share here.

The problem is that typically only the guys that make these really understand and know how they work. They are the ones that have true experience with them on more that one car and in multiple situations. They have typically done the R&D and should know what does/doesn't work more than just the average memeber on here.

I didn't read through this whole thread but it goes back to....if you don't want one then don't buy it. For me it is cheap insurance. I may not own the car long enough for this to be an issue but every time I've drained out several ounces of oil from my can I have no regrets of having it. It' just that much oil that didn't go into my engine.

There have been multiple NON-VENDORS on here that have posted pics of the crap they remove from their cans between oil changes. What more evidence do you want? I do not sell catch cans and have nothing to gain if you decide to go out and buy a catch can. What I can tell you is I have the RX can on my Camaro and the Mike Norris can on my Vette and they both have a nasty looking oil mix in them every single time I change my oil. I do not track my cars much at all, so this is primarily street driving. If I can prevent this from going back into the intake and all it takes is $150 and me emptying it during an oil change….well then I personally feel it’s a no brainer.

I don't see a problem with questioning a products worth, or claims. I know I have made purchases for my car based on the pimping of the products on this website and the legions of supporters only to be dissapointed in the products. Sometimes I think you want to believe so bad that these products do what they claim you loose rational judgement.

First time I emptied it after 1k miles. I don't abuse this car either. Not a lot but enough for me to not want it in there. I want this thing running smooth 20+ years from now.

The RX can should not need to ever be cleaned (some of the early ones we have over 100k miles on) but if you choose you can pull the center fitting off (it is a press on fitting) and spray brake clean into it, shake it up and drain.

On the drain hose, you just run it down and zip tie it loosely where ever you want the drain hose to locate.

Invisacord has the best step-by-step how to yet!!!

Hold the phone here, are you saying I can put one on and forget about it? That’s the reason I haven’t pulled the trigger on one of these yet. The endless post’s I’ve read say that you have to clean them every time you change the oil. I can see cleaning it every 20,000 but if I don’t have to do it ever, I’ll take it.
