Progress over the weekend.
Body work is still in paint. Wiring harness is still going in the car as well as final fluid lines. Interior panels are installed as is some of the lexan glass work. ![]() ![]()

Rear suspension is complete.
LG Motorsports G5 sway bars, HD quiet end links, LG/AST Coil overs, LG Solid subframe mounts, LG mono ball suspension arm bushings and Cobalt brake pads!

Interesting rear brake setup?
This is the second time I see such "puny" calipers on a "high performance" application, Now I wonder if we really need massive calipers with 8000 pistons... Also interested in all the mono ball stuff

They (Camaro's) do not have a lot of rear weight, so a big brake isn't needed. We run an aftermarket adjustable ABS kit on the car which has different settings than the factory And we can reduce rear weight that isn't needed on the car. Generally speaking on almost any car, you will not need that big of a rear brake compared to the front, but if you have a big wheel on the car they do look odd on street cars. |

And you don't really get more stopping power with more pistons in the caliper. There's only so much pressure a caliper can generate, and the pistons are generally smaller the more of them there are. More pistons apply a similar pressure over a larger area compared to a caliper with fewer pistons over a smaller area. The purpose of the larger pad is to increase heat capacity and reduce fade.
Higher friction pads and larger rotors do more do decrease stopping distance than more pistons in the caliper. |

There is something to be said about more pistons, and the stiffness of the caliper as well as in relation to the car weight and grip of the tires. A lot of things play a big role in how the brakes work on a race car. Heck you can throw race pads in your stock brakes and get the car to stop just as hard as the race car does once or twice. Aftermarket calipers, rotors, hats.....their main role is repeatability. If the driver knows he can hit the 100 foot brake point each time for an hour, then he is confident in what the car can do and when it can stop...and will be faster than if he has no idea how it is going to stop and when. If we were talking a 1967 Camaro with drum brakes or 10" rotors and single piston calipers vs installing a 14" 6 piston caliper kit then it would be a bigger change however with modern braking systems today going to a BBK is just about making sure that car will stop every single time just like it did the first time around. |

New presents from StopTech arrived this morning for the Camaro.
![]() ![]() This is the ST40R Trophy caliper. As you can see they are hard anodized, not powder coated like most of their calipers. More machine work is done to the caliper to remove weight, and add strength in other areas. This version of the Trophy also does not include dust boots as they would be burnt out of the car in the first session. |
