The Top Dog argument is flawed IMO as it stands. If you're going to pull out the big brother vette everytime an enemy shows up, then it begs the question as to whether the zl1 should be around in the first place. Not saying that they should get rid of it, but if it won't compete with its closest competitor, then it makes better sense to get rid of it and just have the corvette.
Nope, Not outclassed by any means, that's your opinion, but not true.

IMHO and judging from MT's test, and the slew of comparisons that will follow, the hp difference and performance will matter when the ZL1 and GT500 are judged.

If both cars were of different themes: As an example the zl1 as a luxury touring car (like the cts-v) then the performance and power deficit would matter less. However, with both the zl1 and gt500 marketed as ultimate pony performance cars, in which both cars are drawing on their mega horsepower images of their past, their resulting hp and performance numbers will be a main emphasis in evaluating which car is the better of its rival.

I doubt it. Many car mag tests have given the nod to the car with the most highly ranked features combined......not just HP. The HP will be the reason it will make a good test and read, but it is the sum of all components working together that the judges decide upon.

I know only 69! But for the people who Only want to go straight, that's their car!

Also, did I miss somewhere on this forum about the "Stage 2" package? Is there anything official from GM on this?

I am not pretending to be in the know or even know facts for that matter... this is pure speculation, deem it trolling if you will, but please understand this is what happened with the Stage 1 Kit for the Cobalt in 2009.

GM started selling the 2008/2009 Cobalt SS in Octobert of 2008 after a bit of a hiatus. There were rumors swarming that a Stage 1 kit would be released because it was already out for the Soltice and Sky LNF models. As stated in previous posts, it was a new MAP sensor and a reflash of the stock tune, which bumped the HP to 280 and the tq to 320 and it also added a "learn" for aftermarket parts.

After having to get it CARB, (California Air Resources Board), GM released it in October/November of 2009. Keep in mind, the Cobalt SS Turbocharged, had already been out almost a year. You could order your 2010 SS (the last year) with the GM Stage 1 from the Factory for an extra whopping $900. And this car is a blast to drive, as my daily driver. Kudos to GM's performance division.

What does this mean for the ZL1? My GUESS is that if something is even on the way, it's going to take awhile to get it passed through CARB.

Looks like people keep comparing the ZL1 with something that doesn't exist yet: the 13 Mustang Shelby.

I would say this: as I'll drive my ZL1 98% of the time on the street, I don't give a rat's ass about more power vs. better handling. The ZL1 is an awesome package and I can bet it will remain the handling winner. That's what matters to me; it has enough power, it looks great and it has 4 functional seats and a trunk! Do you really think you can go 200mph in US or run 3.8s on the street?

Let's also remember the topic: Stage 2. Not voiding the warranty is a big thing, unless your focus is on racing. Let's hope this kit will surface soon. I would take weight reduction vs. more power but i guess we'll have to wait and see.

Where have you been? The 2013 Shelby GT500 is already in the hands of consumers, and has had performance numbers released too.

To you it might, but not to me or to the present and future ZL1 owners. I'm still going to get one even if the GT500 #'s are better by 1000%, the ZL1 is still more badass
