Lets not forget, NCIC goes down...... often. Then it's your gut.

Hope you have a better drive this morning. Bring a mug of Joe from home today!

Perhaps I should clarify, too. I'm not suggesting that a potential stolen vehicle shouldn't be pulled over and looked into. I just think that in this particular case, detaining someone may have been a bit more than what was necessary, although I do see some valid points in your explanation of it now that you put it up.

I sort of started to say some of that in another post....but in not quite such a nice way....before going on and saying a few more things that in retrospect also didn't come out quite right, and were a bit more than what was necessary on my own part. So for anyone who may have seen and were offended by that before it was deleted it, I apologize.

Yea, I didn't mean anything personal to you, and in this situation what they did makes sense, I just know if my car was stolen I wouldn't want them pulling every camaro over and incarcerating the owners simply to find mine.

I see a LOT of 5th gens on the road.

We just have a growing police state in this country, government using revenue collected by exploiting low speed limits to buy speed and traffic cameras that auto-ticket you etc. I didn't have any way to word that without it sounding like I'm attacking law enforcement.. and that's certainly not what I want to do, I respect cops that protect and serve and would have been fully compliant in this situation.

That is a crappy way to start the day.... I'm glad you can see it as a funny story to share
If my car was stolen, I'd definitely want the cops out looking for it. Then again, I have Onstar AND Lojack, so my car should be the only one pulled over. No mistaken identities...

Oh boy, "matching the description of..." not fun

Exact same thing happened to me after I "spiritedly" pulled away from a restaurant and shot out into traffic. Got pulled over for "matching the description of...

...a blue Camaro suspected of being on a herion delivery run."

So the officer greets me at my window with his gun drawn and pointed directly at my face. Held me there until his backup arrived, then cuffed me and body slammed me onto the trunk lid. Searched my car for the suspected herion.... Ooops! No herion, wrong blue Camaro... DOH !!!

Uncuffed me. I got no apologies. They drove off and left me with my trunk carpeting, floor mats and the contents of my center console and glove box laying on the sidewalk.

Well that'll teach me for getting noticed for spirited driving, eh?

I got pulled over a few years ago... I was doing 80MPH in a 50MPH zone. Cop red- lighted me, and informed me that I fit the profile (yes, some people can get "profiled...") of a drug runner. Therefore, he was going to cuff me, stuff me, and search the car.

I appreciated that he was forthcoming with the reason for detaining me, and why he was doing the search. Instead of leaving me baffled and pissed, at least I knew his motivation.

He removed every single item from my car... I was traveling, so I had a lot of luggage in my rental car.

He found nothing, and was decent enough to repack everything just as it had been found. He took me out of the back seat of the patrol car, uncuffed me, and apologized for the hassle. He also stated that since I had cooperated, and since he HAD put me through that search, he would not cite me for the speed. That seemed like a pretty good deal to me...

Sounds like the OP got sort of a similar deal. He'd accelerated out of the parking lot, and, while not necessarily unsafely, just about ANY acceleration is open to interpretation when a cop sees you doing so. If a cop doesn't like the way you did it, you can be cited for exhibition of speed, breaking traction, reckless, unsafe lane change, or whatever term the officer wants to designate your driving as.

But, the OP was not cited. He was apparently very cooperative, and, while unspoken, it seems that the deal was, in exchange for some detention and discomfort, and his cooperation, he was released with no citation, and a cool story, now heard 'round the world!

I think we just should weigh the situation and ask ourselves if their intentions were genuine and necessary. And stay rational.

Now if it was my mother, I'd be quite pissed.

Oh well, I knew this car was gonna get me in trouble sooner or later.
I've been pretty lucky... I haven't had a moving violation in gees.... 6 years easy..

so to get detained the way I did is pretty funny...

NOOOOO.... lets be clear...

what I said was.

"If this had happened 15 years ago and I was still in the Navy and single... I'd have asked her for her number..."

but at almost 40... wife, kids and a soiled pair of boxers... I'm not really thinking about pulling digits...

..... but can you imagine the rest of the story if I did ask?????
