Well, comparing them to each other, the x pipe will sound slightly smoother, while the h pipe will let you hear the individual exhaust pulses more. Kind of like the sound difference between a boosted V8 verses a cammed V8 - they're about the same volume, but one sounds smoother and one sounds choppier.

I think it should be mentioned that a "resonated" X pipe (basically, a muffler) would cause the exhaust to smooth out. Using a standard X pipe would not result in the same affect to the exhaust note.

In the past, it has been said that using a standard X pipe can introduce more rasp so for the most part, V6 owners do not install standard X pipes.

Well you're right, yeah. But even the stock set up will rasp if you just delete the mufflers or the rear cats or something. Part of it is the setup itself.

However I was also talking on a point of the H pipe verses X pipe in general. Not specifically on our cars, for example. They all behave differently. If you take a vehicle with straight pipes and add an h pipe or an x pipe, what I explained will mostly hold true.

Oh, Creative, I finally watched that video. That's a sick sound. I'm not sure you'll be able to preserve it entirely, honestly. Any kind of pipe junction will probably change the sound.

I still don't see where anyone has listed a price. I'm going to go to the muffler shop tomorrow, but before I go, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much they paid for the 3" pipe running straight from the x pipe out.

I was quoted around $200 from 2 different shops. I'm getting this done soon with quad tips

I paid just over 300 bucks here in canada and that included everything was custom fitted and welded.

I even had the opportunity to match the exhaust up with my diffusers.

Very cool! $200-300 for this sound isn't bad at all! I'm definitely going to see if I can get this done this weekend. Thanks!

Can you post a pic of what the muffler setup looks like under the car? Also did you notice any MPG change?

In the 2nd video you can hear those people talkin-about-cha

At about 1:18 something about "drive it in the winter".. 1:22 "tires must be expensive for that".. can't hear the rest but it gives me some ideas for my own video of my exhaust sound..

I'll get a few people to stand around and talk like in your video, but they will read from scripts that I write like:

1st standerby: "Wow, that car sure sounds cool, it's a V6 but it sounds like a cammed V8.."

2nd standerby: "Yeah, it sure does, much better sounding than any V8 5th Gen Camaro I ever heard, or any V8 for that matter"

3rd standerby (hot chick): I sure hope he asks me to go to the submarine races tonight ... hee hee

Seriously though, judging from your video it seems to be a bit too loud inside the cabin, which I know is a matter of taste. Adding some tips would improve the appearance, plus it would reduce some of the cabin drone.

I'm wondering how much of the sound is effected by the 2nd Cats delete. I'm in a state which does not have emissions testing, but if it was to ever be re-enacted or you want to sell the car to somebody out of state than you might need them back on.

I have the same car but I have a set of Flowmaster AT axel back, I had the Mag.Res.X but took it off and put back the H pipe because it was overall too mild sounding. It seems to have increased low-end torque over the stock system or with the M.R.X. added to the Flowmaster axel back. It only gets raspy when going w.o.t, and cabin drone is infrequent and tolerable due the deep tones.

Here is some data collected from my tests:

Each Flowmaster 40 from the "axel back A.T. " including the tips weighs a bit over 17 lbs.

The Magnaflow Resonated X muffler weight is 11.1 lbs.

The stock H pipe is about 4.5 lbs. when cut out to match the size of the M.R.X.

From what I'm guessing, most of his in cabin noise is due to the shorty headers. If we had someone that was an LFX with the given 3" set up, we could confirm.

The car is actually noticeably quieter in cabin when compared to when I had the mrt1 axlebacks on. Highway driving is much more pleasent with the slightly reduced drone.

Listened to all 3 videos but I am wondering what the 3" pipe sounds like without the phase cam on? Sounds really awesome and by far the best I have heard!! Thanks

Also curious about this.

I might do real cams one day, but I'd rather avoid the Trifecta Ghost cam stuff, which is what I assume this is?
