pretty simple of why you thought the L99 wasn't all that great, it was set on a low octane fuel map. Dealers will stick shitty gas in it, fuse pull it and put 93 in the car then come back and tell us what feels different

Back when I had my V6, I went and test drove an L99 just to see what the fuss was about. It was ragged out, probably had 86 octane in it, and the tires were bald. Still had more umph than my V6, there was no denying that. But when I test drove an LS3 a few months later, it was all over for the V6 for me. I certainly prefer my LS3, but the L99 still smokes an LFX, my friend.
Still, nothing against the V6's. I owned one and I loved it. The V8's are just a different animal altogether. Sounds to me like you have the V8 itch. Nothing wrong with that. I had it, too, and the only cure is a V8. Maybe you'll get one day. If not, enjoy your V6. It's a great car. |

Sort of on-topic . . . if you drive a variety of cars to about the same level of performance it may even feel like there isn't much difference. You just don't feel the performance that you aren't using in the stronger cars, and you don't particularly notice that you're running the lower performing cars somewhat closer to their limits. I can't say that this effect was clouding OP's comparison, but on the other hand I can't eliminate it as a possibility. Norm |
