ive said it before and ill say it again, 95% of us drive our performance cars to work half asleep barely getting it over 3k on the tach. then we get back into it at the end of our work day and do the same thing on the way home. MAYBE we'll get crazy and go WOT on an on ramp or something. but other than that we use our high horsepower performance cars to commute in. the same job a Honda civic can do. we just decide we like to do it with big horsepower, and subjectively good looks.

you can tout lap times and performance figures all you want...but at the end of the day, you commute to and from work in it and it sits in a parking lot all day. you're not hitting apex's and setting record lap times.

stop it.
So everyone buys 1LT and 2LT Camaros? NO SSs? A HUUUUGE part of that personal preference is what the car is capable of whether you will ever do it or not. The 'ring is simply an industry acknowledged track that tests every element of chassis and powertrain. It is further a demonstration of the levels to which a manufacturer aspires with the car you may be considering.

"hey we fully tested the new Z06 on commuter roads............just like you!!!!"

"ummmm did you ever take it on a track?"

"why no, we did not. Most of our customers use their Z06 for commuting so we really didn't see the need step up to the crazy folks that might actually do that"

You may not give a rats behind about 'ring times. That doesn't mean no one else does or shouldn't either. It's just your opinion. For me it is great indicator of the capability of the car. Doesn't mean I won't buy a car that isn't number one or even is better than it's main competitor. But it demonstrates the capability of the car far more than a HP and torque number in a brochure.

Find the last ZR1 time and subtract 5 seconds.
