Interesting? I refer to my friends in the US of A as Americans yet this discussion has raised the question of why.
I mean Canadians live in Canada, Mexicans come from Mexico.
so why do you that live in the "United States of America" not call yourselves "united statesman" or US'ers or some such lingo. enquiring minds want to know.

Your answer is in your question. America is part of our name. Thus Americans. Even though the entire continent was named from an Italian. You guys only have one word to key off of. To me it seems right to key off of the main word in the name. Hell I don't know , but that's the way it is. I damn Sure know that Canadians are not Americans. Good bad or indifferent.

Although anytime we chant it's "USA, USA, USA, USA!!!!" I guess we are USAns.

Thanks to our modern regime, most of the world thinks of us a assholes.

It's just what stuck I guess. Plus we were the first country to become independent in North America, so citizens became known as Americans while Canadians were technically still British subjects and people in the south were technically still Spaniards.

Point, as stated is correct, and just to add, the correct name for Mexico is "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" which translates to "United Mexican States" so by the same standard that we use, they are referred to as...Mexicans where as our nation is "The United States of America" and by the same logic, Americans. Canada is just Canada, so therefore "Canadians" is proper.

Why do we park in a driveway, and drive on a parkway? You will have the answer when you can snatch this pea from my hand, Grass Hopper!

When I was stationed in Alaska back in the cold war days our letterhead read "Top Cover for America" and we were manned by both US and Canadian Air Force troops.

I prefer Redneck for me, being from Mississippi, I am what I is! Now living in Louisiana, I did marry a real Coonass from Thibodaux, Louisiana. She uses the word Sha a lot! ie, Sha darlene, you want me to get you a beer? Boo is another word, like good morning Boo, how you doing Boo, etc.

As of this date we do not have another product to replace the Camaro , so the flex line will lose one shift ( 1000 ) people . As has been stated there will be a canvass done to see who would like to retire , that will decide the final numbers on total layoffs.

I have the option to retire as I have 32 yrs service , but will wait to see what exactly is being offered before making a decision . Ideally because I've been involved with the 5thgen since before production and worked on VIN # 0001 , I'd like to see the very last Camaro off the line in November .

I don't want to get into a pissing match with some of my American friends here regarding where the Camaro should be built , but I do have to say I'm disappointed with some of the comments I've read here ! I've owned many American built cars and trucks over the years and have never complained about it being from the USA ,in fact I'm proud to own American assembled products because I know the men and women of General Motors always put their heart and soul into each vehicle . My wife's Malibu is American built , we never for a second , thought about not buying it because of its assembly location !

We are a global economy and the Oshawa plants have been building world class products for over 80 yrs , all of us here have given 100 % to each of the 5thgens going down the line and will continue to do so until the very last day .

I wish my brothers / sisters in Lansing all the best with the 6thgen and know full well they will carry the torch high and with pride .

As always I send best regards to all of you and your families from Canada and have a wonderful weekend.

Very well said Mike, very proud to be a 5th Gen owner !

I know one of the guys here works there, I hope he isn't caught up in the lay offs.

I have a 2013 Honda Crosstour, built in Ohio, USA. 95% American content including engine and tranny and assembled there.

Think my Camaro is 75% American with tranny and engine USA, assembled in Oshawa, Canada which is a great facility.

Oshawa will be back stronger than ever soon. Good luck and thanks for your great work.
