I got quoted 212 dollars a month for my 2005 Pontiac GTO which is a 400hp RWD coupe. That's less than what he pays for his 100hp aveo. I'm 22. I ended up getting on a joint policy with my sister and pay 148 a month. If your son continues to pay 4000 bucks a year, he's crazy. Oh, if I have a speeding ticket I get a lawyer to take care of them. I still have one speeding ticket on my record that I paid outright. It was only 5mph over but I still paid one. So if I can get a 200 dollar a month car insurance payment for my GTO he should be able to do better than 300+ a month for his Aveo.

On the subject of power, these cars are very manageable. My GTO was my first RWD car and it was very streetable. The throttle was very predictable and easy to manage. I've always been a pretty cautious dude, but I can't speak for teenagers.

We can all judge these kids for getting their camaros for doing school work and what not, but that's really up to their parents. My dad wouldn't have anything to do with me buying my GTO so I have no idea what that's like. But I think growing up the way I did, I wouldn't feel right letting him buy me a car.

I think there's something to be said for teaching kids to earn their own way. And buying them a 30+k car when their barely legally able to drive it kind of spits in the face of that theory. But as long as parents are able to do it, it'll happen.

That's all assuming these kids aren't full of crap. Making it seem like they have to work so hard to get their straight As and come up with money so their the "least worst" of the spoiled kids.

I was on the Principal's honor roll for 4 years straight. AP classes and all kinds of academic achievement. I still never thought that was cause for my dad to buy me a 30k car considering going to school is for my benefit, not theirs. I can't understand the mindset that people get into thinking they're doing their parents a favor by going to school and doing well.

On topic:

Price: low to mid 30ks
Model: SS (possibly RS package depending on how the two look side by side)
Trans: 6 speed manual. Wouldn't have it any other way.
Color: Tough one. Black is classic and would work fine for me. Maybe some white stripes would be nice. Orange was my first choice, but I'm not sure how I like the orange they offer. Have to see it in person first.
Buying: Maybe the second model year or so.
Extras(?): HUD would be fun. Not exactly necessary, but could be entertaining. Navigation would be nice. I'd like MP3 connectivity too. I know the suspension will already kick ass, but if they have a handling upgrade, I'm all over it.

+1 on the whole mommy and daddy buying 30k cars for teenagers. I have worked 40+ hours PLUS gone to college for 4 years now just to live and PAY for my education. Not because my parents can't pay, its because they WON'T, and i don't blame them. I recieved scholarships, but they don't take care of everything, and its not as hard as you think to work while in school. Sorry if i sound a little irritated, but lets be honest, what 16 year old needs a camaro? I will have to buy mine used most likely, because i can't afford student loans, bills, and housing along with a 350+ dollar car payment. Now to the topic:

What i want: ss/rs, auto trans, HAVE to have the gauge pod. See what i can find used after the first year, just hope GM brings something sweet out year 2 so someone will trade in their SS. Color would be black, silver or blue, beggers can't be choosers though

I need one because next year I am going to have a really chaotic schedule. I am going to be in band and we practice every night for 3 hours. It's pretty hard and we're really good. 2nd in the world. I then have golf which practices at various time and so does baseball so don't tell me I don't need a car. My parents are almost always busy because they have lots of responsibilites in the companies that they work in. Don't get me wrong, they are still there for me and come to my games and stuff but don't tell me I don't need a Camaro when you don't even know me.

Technically you don't.

You need transportation, it can be an 84 honda with different sized rims all around, and 4 different colors of paint. You just need something that runs, it doesn't HAVE to be a Camaro.

That's technically speaking of course.

Chevy needs you to buy a Camaro though, the more they sell, the better off they are, and the happier we'll all be

TECHNICALLY I don't need a CAMARO but I do need a car. I am getting a Camaro. If you pay attention in school and do well in college, people come to YOU. That is what my dad did, he is smart and has money. He said it was okay to buy one so I am going to get one. Get over it.

I am torn between a V8 with Tapshift and a V8 with manual.
I am also torn between what color to get the Camaro in. Black or White?

Well, is there alot of traffic in your daily commute? If there is, I would definitely go for the auto, and as for black/white, I wouldn't go for either, cuz they are both a pain to keep clean, but since those are the only two choices you gave, I'd get black.

Thanks, I have traffic in my daily commute but only for 3 - 5 mins, so I'm still not sure. Also about the white, I would clean my car every day if I had to. I love the Camaro. I like cyber gray but like you said, I need to see it in the actual showroom to see if it looks good.

Hate to tell you, NO ONE needs a camaro. It's just nice to have. Not saying a 16 year old shouldn't have something nice, if they can pay for it. If mom and dad buy it for you, then its a little different. Nothing worse than a cocky little 16 year old that doesn't know anything about actual work. I understand everyone can do what they want, but in MVHO, a 16 year old should not be driving a car some adults can't afford. I don't have to know you to know that But i would definitely go with the auto btw.

The reason my parents are buying me a Camaro is because i am paying for college on my own. Now i don't call that being spoiled i call that a more than fair deal because in the end i will end up paying more in school tuition and expenses than the price of the car. For those of you "older" fellows that are complaining about the whole "mommy and Daddy" thing you should take a look at yourself, because the ones that are really acting like "kids" right now are you guys for complaining about stupid things that really aren't your bussiness.

Back on topic.

This thread isn't about whether we need a Camaro. We all want one and that's the good stuff.
