AWD adds weight and unlike popular belief all the hp doesn't get to the ground. The AWD eats alot of HP.

I wish that was the case! If you are applying any power at all during a turn, AWD is better than snow tires because the front tires would be pulling the car in the direction of the turn as opposed to only the rear tires trying their hardest to push the car in the direction it is already facing.

But snow tires do make the Camaro capable in the winter. I agree with this! stopping and going on hills isn't really much of a problem. And if I don't apply any power during a turn, turns aren't scary either The car really grips!

I'm thinking they could please both sides by making a V6 awd Camaro but keeping the rwd V8. They could consider making a V8 option on the awd Camaro.

AWD does not belong on a Camaro.

Zombie thread re-resurrected!

AWD in a Camaro - Yes!

For the naysayers, I question whether you've driven a car that utilizes AWD as a performance benefit.

If the Camaro could utilize the same AWD system that is utilized in the newer Audi S4's with the supercharged V6 (rated at 333hp, actual dyno results show closer to 400)...I think GM would have a winning combo. Awesome muscle car, LOTS of hookup.

Launches in an AWD car are about the most fun thing you can do. Especially in the newer S4's...the car feels like it's arching its back--so much power, and nowhere to go but directly to the ground via all 4 wheels. The car hooks instantly and tears off. Exiting corners feels like you've got 4-wheel steering as the rears want to break loose, but the fronts keep you going in the intended direction.

AWD gives a different hooligan type experience. It's not tire-smoking fun, unless you've got something with a ton of power and extra driveline parts. But it's confidence-inspiring and magical with an active center diff that can shift torque between front and rear.

Yeah, on 5th thought GM should have 1,843 different models and color choices and options that will take buyers 2 years to make up their minds to get. That way this site will never run out of the mindless threads of what they should buy.

No. It would add more weight. If GM added a dipstick to check trans fluid, maybe. Save the AWD for the sedans.

If there was AWD as an option, the choice would be very clear. Especially if GM baked up the suspension a bit and threw in a bit more power to compensate for the added mass. Wowee, that would be the right and tasty little machine to have...

That's what's disappointed me so much about GM over the past 20 years or so. They're very reluctant to create new classes of vehicles, and when they do, the follow-through appears non existent. Who says the world can't have a 450hp AWD pony car?

Audi certainly wasn't afraid to do it with the A5/S5...but then again, they really don't have the tire-smoking fanbase or a big enough V8 to put the permagrin on faces of simpletons like us chickens...

I don't know if it belongs on a Camaro either, nor do I think it will actually happen......however the front hubs are splined!....makes you wonder.

You guys are right. GM should build an AWD sports car. However they should never under any circumstances call it a Camaro. Camaros have always been and should remain RWD. Call it Regal Grand National if you like. Perhaps a good platform to bring back the GTO. If they could resurrect Pontiac somehow. I don't care but, not Camaro. Sticking to my guns on this one.
