Wounded Warrior To Return Home 08/20 @ 4:30


A wounded U.S. Marine is returning to Jacksonville on Friday to celebrate his 21st birthday with his family, and locals are invited to welcome the hometown hero.

Marine Cpl. Tyler Southern lost his legs and an arm while fighting for his country in Afghanistan.

Locals are invited to welcome him back by lining the streets near his home with flags and signs.

The lines will form near the Interstate 295 offramp to Old St. Augustine Road South, then onto Caron Road, east on Julington Creek Road and north to Gathering Oaks Drive and finally to Gathering Oaks Court West.

Southern's dad is driving him home from Bethesda, Md., where he has been receiving medical treatment.

Locals are asked to begin forming the lines at 4:30 p.m.

A motorcycle escort will lead the wounded warrior home.
