Traction Control and Nannies

Just watched a video of a young lady who turned off traction control in a rented Ferrari - within on minute she totaled car.

How often are you cats running around with the nannies turned off? The way I drive my car (short bursts to speed limits or slightly over) I know it would be in the rhubard...you can almost feel it giving way with the nannies on. Our cars are not the 270 crank HP 78 Camaros....

Wooohooo, I love it every time I drive it, hell, even when I look at it!!!!!!!!!!

Discuss.

I usually drive in Competitive mode, which gives me some traction control. Sure, if you don't understand the car, punch it and go into a turn, she can get away from you. One has to practice to get the feel. Best to go to a wide open parking lot with all nannies off and play a little.

I drive with mine on all the time. I once hammered it coming out of a corner on ramp a$$ end went right out on me, underwear were soiled LOL & then the nannies straightened the car right back out & all was fine.

And I learned a very healthy respect for this cars power in that fleeting moment. The most I will do is engage Competitive mode but generally leave everything as is. Now that I'm tuned the car is hairier than stock when I pulled that other stunt.

It lowers the sensitivity some I believe especially the stability control. It will let the car get a bit further out of control. Not completely though.. My car chirps the tires more in CM that's for sure. And it tightens the steering some too. It is intended only for track use according to the manual whatever that's worth......

Occasionally I'll turn them off. It's my DD, so I tend to leave them on as I'm driving in traffic most of the time.

With a couple dozen autocrosses (most of my runs spent oscillating wildly as I hunt for traction) under my belt and a few track days, I'm quite comfortable with my 1LE; specifically, how it breaks rear-end traction. As such, I have no issues turning off stability control.

That said, I rarely disable it. Chris Harris or Tanner Faust, I am not. To quote myself: "If I'm that far out of shape on the street, something has gone terribly wrong and by all means Mr. Computer man, come and get me."

  • G2s: Rock throwing is like like a tramp stamp; although problematic, it's a sign of good things to come.

I turn mine off every time I start the car , hate feeling the power get cut just because the tires break free. I enjoy getting sideways and power slides, just need to get seat time and it's very controllable in my opinion

I tried turning off the traction control in my auto tranny V6 once but it didn't seem to have any effect - still wouldn't let me smoke the tires - I guess my switch must be broken Yzinger, can you please share a link to the Ferrari crash?

It's in comp mode always during street driving, occasionally I'll turn all the nannies off. Rain or inclement weather, they stay on.

Even with 420 at the wheels, I feel like you need to have a cinder block for a right foot to actually have things go completely out of hand in dry conditions. This car gives rather good feedback as to what's happening, despite the semi-vague steering.

I never get into my DD with the notion I'm heading out to grind the tires. So, I never think to turn anything off.
But I'm an old ass.
