Nice thing about a manual is that you can "hot rod" around and get the sensation of speed with out really speeding vs a automatic which you usually have to mat the accelerator to the floor for a while to feel all of its 580hp.... but by then you are usually going fast enough to be arrested. Sure you can keep the auto in a lower gear but you still miss out on all the little nuances of going through the gears with little hints of WOT before, during and after shifts so you can hear all the popping and blurbing coming from the exhaust vs the consistent linear roar from the auto car. I'd get an auto if it was going to be a heavily modded daily driver that would see a lot of time at the drag races and a manual if it was going to be a fun weekend car with light mods and no track time.

The ZL1's 0-60 time is 2 tenths of a second faster with the automatic, so the manual might "feel" faster but the auto "is" faster. And the paddle shifters will pretty much recreate the shifting of a manual (except no clutch).

Medical reasons forced me to get an auto but I'm loving it either way.

Plus my wife gets to enjoy the car as well!

i love the manual. i only regret it when im in stop and go traffic. i make a 3hr drive to philly atleast once a week in my car and have no complaints with the stick, i actually like it. but bumper to bumper traffic is painful to say the least.

I finally got a chance to drive my m6 ls1 ss for the first time in almost a year. I took her down the track, and though I missed a gear on my first pass, knew what I was missing. I think the ZL would have to run low 10s for me to get the same kind of excitement. I'm in no way knocking the ZL1, my SS is loud and crude and cannot even come close to matching refinement my ZL1 possesses.

What is really amazing is that chevy put both great trannies in this car. They knew it would be a smart move. They knew enough to not put just any auto tranny in this car, but one that would hold up to the power and get it to the ground so well. Either way it is a preference to which one you prefer. I got the M6 which I like. But I would love to have an auto parked beside it too. Best of both worlds.
