The GT-R NISMO Nurburgring Lie

The GT-R NISMO is fast. It's just not fast enough to break the records initially publicized.

Article is by Car Throttle. Discuss.

Here's the video of the Nurburgring.

Most, if not all, auto makers do some sort of modification(s) to their 'Ring car.

I agree that they shouldn't have lied, especially on something THIS easy to disprove.

Ring times are a load of bullshit anyway. The fact that they are used as some kind of benchmark is pretty disturbing. Track conditions and climate can play a huge role in the times, and these factors' effect on times are exacerbated by how incredibly long the track is.

I'm not sure if it's used so much as a benchmark as it is a demonstration to potential buyers of what the car "might" be capable of.

Let's say you and I built a monstrous performance car and wanted to demonstrate how awesome it is. Would we pick a day that sucks to drive it and claim we're the fastest car in our class, or would we pick a day that optimizes our performance to post videos and brag about our car?

So, it sounds like they pretty much did what every other manufacturer likely does. Big deal. Props to Nissan for building such an awesome car. Lie not found.

"Now Nissan weren’t necessarily hiding this fact, and these parts will be made available to customers, but PistonHeads spoke to NISMO engineers, who confessed that the car had also been specifically tuned for the Nurburgring."
