New to the LT1.....

Any suggestions on first oil change as far as miles?

Recommendations on break-in procedure?

Ill be using Amsoils' best 5W30, unless y'all recommend 0W30 as some have.

Thank you

I've got a full understanding of how the system works without having too read the owners manual.

I was just curious as too whether the community had any unlisted tips.

Thanks for the response.

Many will tell you they drain at 500 miles, etc, but honestly, that is wasting the oil and time. Nothing wrong doing that if you want some sort of piece of mind based on what used to be required when fuel was dirtier, engine builds were sloppier, etc.

I would follow the maintenance minder and schedule in your manual. This is my second C7 and I follow the guide and have not had any issues.

Do what you feel is best for your own piece of mind but I can assure you there is nothing wrong with waiting until your car tells you it needs changed and/or following the maintenance schedule in the manual.

LOL...Other than read the manual?....
Not too many guys here are smarter than the engineers that built the car..

As a 16 year G.M employee I'm not sure I'd always agree with the engineering comment. Lolol

But thanks nonetheless.

I think the 500 mile oil change is more necessary in C7 Corvettes equipped with the dry sump oil system. I read on Corvette forums that the first 500 mile oil change isn't necessary with the wet sump. I believe that's also in the owners manual for the C7.

It certainly wouldnt hurt and I would do it , Any metal that might be floating around would do way more damage than the cost of a $50 oil change ,

I did one at 500 and one at 1500. (overkill? most likely!) It gave me peace of mind. It didn't cost me much. I did it at my dad's shop. And it let me gawk at the car on the lift and see underneath better.

Now I will change the oil every 5K miles.

As its been stated, change the oil early for peace of mind. Doesn't cost much.

As far as break in goes that's a pretty open subject. I've seen that many follow the 1500 granny break in. Nothing wrong with that and it's defiantly the safe route. I personally did it a little different. At 150 miles I did a run through the gears at wot. Didn't redline it but ran it through the gears. At about 350 miles did my first burnout! At about 750 miles had my first race( won of course)! At 1500 miles had a graduation party and installed a msd intake manifold and throttle controller.

I personally believe in a medium break in. Don't run the piss out of it all the time from the get go but do enough to stretch its legs a bit. Ive seen this type of break in done time and time again and it adds up to a good combination of reliability and performance.

I just did the break in that the manual suggested. This is also my first 1LT car, the last car was an LS2.

As far as the oil change, changing after the break in was something I had already decided on after a break in period was mentioned. You get 2 free oil changes with the factory warranty, so might as well use one.
