Question about car dealerships

OK, I'm not seriously considering this, but I kind of wanted to know if dealers ever did this kind of thing.

I'm not sure what I could get on my Camaro now on a trade in...but once it's fixed it'll still be a decent car. I probably can get more in a private sale and I'll probably go that route if I did decide to sell.

However...and here's my question.

Let's say I traded my car in for a car of lesser value. Are there dealers that would pay ME the difference if I did that or is that just never going to happen.

Hell, I am probably not going to sell my car...but I'm curious...

Sure they will. I traded a car to dealer once and they wrote me a check for $5k.

Not sure, but my dad (who was a very good car dealer, chose to retire a couple of months ago) went by kelly blue book value and then subtracted any appraised body damage. However, he would give you a little more value if he saw that the vehicle was properly maintained and was in very good condition. He said that my old 1995 Tracker with 89k miles in it's condition would've booked at least $2500, but I knew nobody was going to pay that much for a 2WD model. (Maybe if it was 4x4)

Idk, different dealers give different trade in values. Had a friend that almost got 19k for a near brand new (within 2 months he had put 60k miles on it) 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD crew cab, but another (bigger) dealer would only give him 15k. He paid around 24k for it brand new I believe.

He told me that was the best damn answer he ever heard.

It happens, just not all that often.....I mean really, how often do people go in looking for less vehicle than they have? Not to say you shouldn't, just that it doesn't happen very often.

Give it a shot....what can it hurt?
