I'll just keep going across the border to save some money. Kill the trading floor now before we hit another recession like a couple of years ago when gas prices went up. Hold on to your jobs guys cause here we go again!

Wish I had come across this earlier. The funniest thing happened this past weekend. A new gas station opened up near my house and they wanted to have the "cheapest gas in town" for their grand opening. Thursday afternoon gas was 3.95. By 10:30 that night, it dropped to 3.55. The next morning, 3.50. By saturday morning it was 3.43!!! The other place right accross the street had to keep changing their prices to match and the lines were wrapped around the corner. Now they're both back to 3.63 and still lower than everyone else in my area where they average 3.85.

I got gas when it was 3.50 and it cost me a little over 60.00 but I was pretty much empty.

That's what we need here, competition, but the oil companies are too greedy, and the station owners can't afford to pull something like that off at their own expense. As for the government, don't even get me started with them, they factor in 46% tax into the price at the pump.

Val, you're sounding like CP24 ironically that was their web question yesterday.

My answer is NO!

However, not surprising, this topic came up in the Ontario legislature yesterday. The Energy Minister, said there's nothing they can do to regulate the price at the pump...Bull crap

The opposition threw the HST at them and the damn Liberals defended it, because they imposed it.

I'M SICK AND TIRED OF POLITICIANS (on all levels), WHO AGREE THERE'S NO JUSTIFICATION FOR THE PRICE INCREASE @ THE PUMPS, YET NO ONE STEPS UP TO THE PLATE AND DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
G8 & G20 DIPLOMATS CAN KISS MY A$$...I HOPE THEY REMEMBER WHO'S FILLING THE GAS TANKS IN THEIR V8 CARS & SUVs.

Remember Provicinal Election in Ontario coming in 5 months!

Found a helpful and easy to follow website for anyone who wants to track "current crude oil prices".
When you hit your refresh button, the price will update, also showing the time.

Price down .70 at time of this post.

This guy sounds a lot like me.

Quote:
Jeff Rubin, former chief economists at CIBC World Markets and the author of "Why Your World Is About To get A Whole Lot Smaller," said prices this week provide a glimpse into the future for Canadian motorists.

"The kind of oil prices were seeing, the kind of gas prices we're seeing at the pumps that have everybody up in arms is, unfortunately, a taste of the future," Rubin told CTV's Canada AM.

"Within a year form now we're either looking at $2-a-litre gasoline or we're going to be in another oil-induced recession."

Faith Goodman, vice-president of the Canadian Petroleum Products Institute, said Canada's gas prices are set according to the North American market and the country is not a "market maker."

She said current flooding in the Mississippi River, especially in the Memphis, Tenn. area, has caused a logistical supply shortage due to the shutdown of oil refineries, leading to higher gas prices.

Rubin said the North American oil market has little to no excess capacity, meaning if there is a natural disaster such as the Mississippi flooding, or if there is unrest in a Middle Eastern oil nation, supply suffers and prices go up.

Drivers may need to prepare for still higher prices, he said.

"(Toronto) Mayor Rob Ford said the war on the car is over. I'm saying the war on the car has barely begun and the enemy is not going to be left-leaning counsellors, the enemy is going to be $2 per litre gasoline," Rubin said.
He's saying just what I've been saying here since these gasoline threads started.
Make your preparations now.
If you can afford 2 bucks a litre, great.
I can. I don't complain. I smile when I fill up at 1.39/litre because I know that is cheap. I know it will not last.
If you can't, you will be forced to make changes in your lifestyle.

P.S. Mr. SQUALO, you are my favourite poster here.

You are a very good reminder to me about how most people react now and will react in the future to high energy costs.
They will lash out in anger at gov'ts and oil companies.
Do something!, they will demand.

Nothing meaningful can be done. You can't fight geology.
We have had 100 years of cheap and easy crude.
Those days are over. The Chinese and Indians want it as badly as we do now. Maybe more.
It takes billions of dollars and exploration in deep water far offshore and scraping up tar sands in further asunder hinterlands to keep the pump going.
These efforts are slowly falling behind the depletion rates as the old elephant fields of the 50's, 60's and 70's like Cantarell, Forties, Ekofisk etc. start drying up.
Adjust your lifestyle or suffer the consequences.
