Paint Protection Film Cleaning

Hi Guys,

Did a full body paint protection film for my new Black SS. I dont have a garage and the weather during the summer kills everything alive. Extremely high temperature, high humidity, and a lot of dust with sand storms occasionally.

I just want to have some tips on how to maintain this film. The installer told me to stay away from Chemicals and strong soap as well as high pressured water but I wonder what detailer spray I can use to restore the shine safely ?

I have xpel ultimate film and use their brand of film sealant that I'll apply maybe twice a year. Otherwise I just hand wash no differently than the rest of the car. I do clean bugs off with detail spray and a microfiber when I'm done driving for the day.

Those sand storms could be tough on the film, you might want to get a cover for those... I'm thinking sandblasted film can't be corrected.

It's going to depend greatly on the film you have. If you know that, you should research that particular film or looks at the manufacturers site for info on how to care for it.

What he meant by not using harsh soaps is he most likely meant to use pH balanced soaps. Car soaps such as Optimum, Adam's and Surf City Garage are all pH balanced and won't strip or harm the film.

Detail spray isn't really what you should be looking at completely to "restore" the shine. Before the film was put on the paint should have been clayed and polished.

Again a lot of this greatly varies on the film you had installed, try to find that out and come back with that info.

Covers are a bad idea unless they are not touching the car.

Thanks guys. I had a quick tour today to a number of Car care shops and bought microfiber cloths and Turtle Ice Synthetic Spray Wax. It cleans all surfaces with no residue.

Agreed, but better than getting sandblasted in a storm - no? What covers don't touch that car, other than something like a car capsule?

OP said occasion sandstorm, so I wouldn't throw a car cover on everyday for something that happens maybe quarterly.

Tough situation, both have pros and cons. I'd look into getting a garage.

Well Having a sandstorm in a city is less painful than having it when driving through an open space like deserts.

Buildings create a blocker, so the wind is not strong enough to allow the sand to cause real damage to the cars. However, it will still cover them with dust and removing dust can damage the paint if not done properly.

Dust can stay in the air for days after the storm is over, so covering the car might not be a solution for a daily driver !!

There are certain times in the year where you will be forced to wash your car twice a day due to the amount of dust.

Thats why I decided to do a full body PPF. It is really expensive but again it is worth every penny and heart break !!

Now maintaining the PPF is what Im really concerned with !!
