So much for needing gearing to beat the SS.
Indeed, there's much debate it seems about the most beneficial gearing for the 1/4 mile. I would imagine 3.73 would be the best but there is concern about having to shift into 5th (potentially) for a better trap.

However, it seems that these two cars are driver to driver at the moment and the GT is barely in anyone's hands. We shall see the kind of improvements we'll get once more and more people get 'em!

OK so the 5.0 is running race tires at a race track, just to get it off the line. Big deal, it isnt like the stock tires are going to make this car slow or loose races on the street unless its from a dig. They only help the car in the 60ft after that they slow the car down due to its taller height.

Evo's is doing what every car mag should do when doing performance testing on high hp rear drive cars. Seriously what's the point of buying a magazine or reading a review on a Roush Stage 3 by Motortrend when their driver doesnt even know how to launch a car. Its actually pathetic that MT's best was 12.4 but MMFF was well into the 11's on stock rubber and 11.2 on sticky tires. Why test and rate performance levels on cars if the tires suck. I would of loved to see them re-test the Lingenfilter vs Roush stg3 with all out drag tires. That would give us all a true winner.

I think all the testers and mags should swap sticky tires when doing 0-60 and 1/4 mile testing on ALL performance cars that have traction problems. Why leave a companies multi-million dollar investment in the hands in people that may not know how to properly drive a 500hp car. Throw some sticky tires and take the driver out of the equation.

what tires did the 11.7 bolt on camaro run? probably something just like the evo car (et streets, which are street legal dot tires). and it looks like it ran on bogarts too, which are not street friendly.

Ok. I agree they are using this car as a test car. They are in the business of selling performance add ons. This cars main duty is to learn and try new stuff on and go to the track.

The shifting into 5th is going to depend heavily upon if you can powershift the GT's tranny into 5th gear.

I can't wait till fall when we get the hero times.

Stock 2011 GT with 3.31 gear and base 18inch wheels and tires goes 12.7

Car had 21 miles on odo. 3.31 gearing and the base/not so good 18 inch wheels and tires.

Runs a 12.95, then 12.81, then 12.78, and finally 12.77.

So much for needing the tires or the 3.73 gear.

Great runs for a base 2011 GT.

The 370Z handles really nicely but 332hp isn't going to cut it against the 5.0.

haha, touche! IDK in my mind tho, these Cars are about HP and TQ...not being light weight...

I think camaros/mustangs/challengers are about HP and TQ. IMO they are the heavy weight sluggers, full of power with a lot of wieght to back it up! but like I said, thats just me

I figured with everyone making 38 different threads about the CNN v6 test, this deserved a thread of it's own.

pony cars were never really meant to be that heavy.
