Looking for the impossible? Replacement mufflers...

So I'm going to run cut outs on my car. I like having the quietness of the OEM mufflers and the loud cutouts on demand. My issue is that I want to ditch the heavy stock cans.

What I want though, is something light, quiet, and relatively cheap. Anyone know of a brand I can get that fulfills this?

I can never find all three qualities....

An option that you can do is have a local exhaust shop cut your factory mufflers out, and add resonators. The resonators weigh less, take up less space, and muffle the exhaust note, leaving it quiet until you open the cutouts. It worked perfect for me.

All quite relatively expensive and much louder than OEM.

Really? Which ones did you use? I could probably order a pair for low cost.

What's your definition of cheap? A pair of resonators with no mufflers is still going to be quite loud.

$50-100 per muffler. And yeah see thats not what I want, I have the cut outs to be loud. Ideally I'd like it to be barely louder than stock, I just want the weight reduction.

I have the dynomax VT axleback and really like it. It's just a tad louder than stock at idle but it's a lower tone. At cruise you can't really hear it inside the cabin at all, just like stock, and there's absolutely no drone. It's designed to not drone. When you hammer it, the valve in the muffler opens up and it's pretty much straight pipes. There is a good YT video from Dynomax that from inside and I think out with them installed. The axleback is around $400 but that comes with a nice set of tips, the needed piping, and has all the hangars welded on in the right places for proper fitment on your car. It's designed to be put on by anyone in their garage with a set of jackstands and a sawzaw or hacksaw. The mufflers run $90-100/each by themselves. Even with LT's and no cats, there is no drone but the sound is a bit louder.

Do you mean these?

Thats so cool how it has that valve! So basically this will be close to stock but at high RPMs it will open up?

I'd rather get these because my shop will make them fit and put the stock tips on for dirt cheap, much less than the $220 more the specified axle back would cost. They'll do it probably for about $50 and I can keep the OEM look.

Those are them. 2.5 offset inlet/2.5in center outlet. Yes they will get quite loud when you get on it. Not too bad with stock cats though. Cats really quiet things down.

This one is of a 10 SS with VT's installed.
