So I got this message today from Corey...when the head gasket went, it washed part of the head, which wasn't /isn't an issue... But it also washed part of the block and one cylinder.... So, the motor is coming out of the car and if ERL can't fix it... It's going in the trash bin.... I was hoping to at least be able to freshen it up and sell it.. Time will tell on that.... Expensive little venture.... But, I'll move on and do what needs to be done....
ERL super deck Extreme Turbo short block with six head stud pattern...

Lol, always the positive thinker
sorry, offshore term...or a hydraulic term... If you have high pressure in one area and it leaks to another area, it eats away or damages the area where the leak developed.as high pressure is passing through the leak...

I really think I learned a lot from the guys I work with... Several of them lost everything... Everything to hurricanes... They pulled on their boots and got back to it... Yes, it hurts a bit but I can move on or park the car. In comparison to everything else, a new motor is pretty reasonable... But... I could not agree more, Debbie is the best wife and partner I could ever hope for... See above... ...are you ready for dinner in a few weeks... Wednesday evening this time... Depending on when I get off the rig and from Houma La to Pascagoula to get my truck...

Sorry about the bad luck but I agree about the attitude. At the level our cars are at it's not if its when but the six bolt pattern should help. I've always heard the mile run is the hardest on the motor. Hell I'm not sure if I could hold it down to 200mph. If I did I'm sure there would be some cleanup that would have to happen when I got out.

Congrats on the Texas Camaro Nats by the way... A friend mentioned on facebook the other day... Hypothetical conversation... Why is it so expensive.... It's a race car Why does it take so long.... It's a race car... Etc.... I laughed as I knew exactly what he was saying... And yes, if you want to go fast, stuff will break... It's an opportunity for better parts...

To add a little illustration to things, the engine is still absolutely perfect in that the cylinders still have cross hatch in them, the pistons look great, even the cylinder that let go looks fantastic. Put when you make almost 170hp per cylinder, and then funnel all that pressure through a small relief that's at most .051" thick, you make what we like to call, PLASMA! The head looks like it got brushed with a plasma cutter and is not worth saving. The cylinder, at least the iron liner held up great, but the supporting aluminum just out side of the liner is a little eroded. I'm hoping the guys at ERL can pull that liner, fix the imperfection in the deck, and then install a new liner. With everyone at SEMA right now, it will be middle of the week before I get any response regarding this type of repair, but I have high hopes! All in all I'm very impressed with the quality and durability of this motor.

Corey, Thanks for sounding in... And here's to the guys that did the original build, and the same ones that can hopefully pull off a repair... After moving and installing approx 300,000 lbs of iron in the last 5 days, we have the stack back together, the stack team left today, and I'll do the finish and touch up stuff over the next couple of days and then start testing... I'm one sore puppy though... All of me hurts....the stack team is one supervisor and a couple of trainees... I was on a stack team five years ago... We travel rig to rig helping out as needed...they are great to have around when it gets busy like this...tomorrow I have to remove and replace a bunch of tubing... I'll be laying on my stomach under a bonnet (ram door that weighs 7500 lbs) on top of the connector top plate bending and fitting tubing. Oh joy... Think of laying on your stomach under a car fitting and bending tubing in the gutter or storm drain at the curb...
