Small Scratches in paint - Turtle Wax ICE etc

Hello - I'm using TW ICE Wash, Detail spray, and Polish. I use micro fiber towels/rags to clean, buff and dry. I like how it looked when I did the wash/polish the first time, and I love how the water comes right off when it gets wet etc. I use the detail spray to get out finger prints, and on my factory stripes. The detail spray leaves it kinda hazzy sometimes only on the paint, not the stripes. I've notice real light scratches when looking real close in the sun at the paint. Where do these scratches come from? TW detail spray suck? Am I doing wrong? I just washed and dried today only, and it looks great. I may not use the micro fiber towel and detail spay anymore...Ideas?? thanks again.

You're gonna get some swirls and RIDS no matter how careful you are... its the nature of the game. Also the quality of the microfiber you're using can be a potential issue, are you using the cheap bulk towels from costco or something similar?

Sorry... should have clarified:

Randomly Introduced Damage or in other words scratches or swirls that are not uniform with the rest of the damage on a car. For the mostpart swirls look pretty uniform, like a pattern almost... RID will be that random area where there is a straight scratch or line from something being rubbed on the paint, a purse rubbing against a door in a parking lot, etc.

bnsmith78,

I'm not trying to be rude at all, but turtle wax is a very substandard mass produced product. It seems like you're the type that likes putting in time detailing a vehicle. If this is the case you may want to invest in professional level products.

properautocare.com is a great website for learning. They have several tutorials on how to fix and restore specific items. I think you will find that most products sold in auto parts stores and Wal-mart are crap.

A good paint sealant runs about $30-40 a quart, but lasts over a year with routine application. Try Menzerna, which is factory spec for german applications or blackfire. A seriously refined carnauba wax can run $75+ for a 16oz container.

If you are interested please pm me. I would be glad to get you started.

By the way, I don't sell anything. I just hate to see a great car not be detailed properly. There is a silver Camaro at my gym, and I don't think the moron has ever washed it. He has tire rub, scratched paint, etc. Makes the vehicle look horrible.

I too use TW products mentioned and am very happy with results?! No RIDS yet, daily driver for 6months.

I think saying TW Ice is substandard is a bit strong. I've used it for over a year now and love the results I get. It doesn't last months but I spend a lot of time cleaning and detailing anyway so I don't mind.

Rejex is okay too but I really don't like the white haze it leaves on the black trim. I drive my car year round and yes, I have micro-scratches but they are minimal. I still get a lot of positive comments on my paint.

I would definitely get a nice quality microfiber towel. Cheaper ones might be okay but keep them clean and rotate them out as soon as you see them getting dirty.

Here's my car today after a rain. Kind of hard to tell but up close ther are a few rain water spots. Tomorrow is was day.

Thank you Dylan for the clarification. Some of my scratches come from CDC's Careless Disrespectful Clods.

I looked at my car a couple of days ago and I had Randomly Introduced Damage ( scratches ) like birds slid across the a section of the car.

I believe my damage also came from the microfiber towel
(looked clean but had grit in it.)

People who say they have no scratches on their car aren't looking hard enough. It is nearly impossible to not get scratches. Just pollen and dust alone can cause light scratches. No offense but no matter how good the microfiber towel is, ya gonna get scratches. The moment you keep worrying about it, the less you will enjoy your car. My first rock chip for an example, I was devastated and did not want to take the car out anymore. lol. Now it's like meh whatever. As per the scratches, I want to try Adams products next, but the price is just a tad high. Was looking at one of the detail kits but 300.00 bucks is up there, lol.

YA- I'm using microfiber towels from Wal-Mart. The drying towel @$10, seems to work good. But the bundle of micro towels for detailing @$5 for 7or8 seem to suck. I love the wash and polish, but the detail spray and cloths I bought don't do the trick. Dylan - Is there a basic kit I could start with that has the products I've discussed? How much? Thanks......
