I was also wondering if draining the oil while up in the ramps would be an issue. (would all the oil come out with it up on the ramps?)

Can you imagine someone taking your advice and doing donuts in thier car? They might actually have some fun, and we don't want that.

junkie, common sense, like the RS package in a Camaro, is an option, and unfortunately, some of us didn't come with it or lose it sometimes. Ask me, over the weekend, I was cleaning my workdesk in the garage and found a pair of mouse traps that I bought months ago when I saw a mouse run across the garage floor and forgot about. Well, I decided to finally set them, I did. Then I realized peanut butter for bait would work great. Scooped a bit of it with my index finger, and proceeded to place it in the trap...SNAP! Doh!

I took some advice from another thread and built the ramps only 2 layers high. That 3-inch rise was enough to do the oil change on the V6 - only have to get at the drain plug since the filter access is up top. A lower incline should mean less chance of oil remaining in the pan. When the weather is nicer, I can do it on a slight incline in the driveway and be near level. Another thing I like - if you ever mess up and over-shoot your ramps, you shouldn't do any damage. I know that should never happen, but a friend of mine managed to do it years ago and did some nasty damage to his Buick Wildcat. That always stuck with me and made me nervous about ramps.
