Autozone Heads Up

In my area anyway they are running Valvoline Full Synthetic for 2qts for $14.00 including the Modern Engine type. The tag I saw says the sale will last until 2/5/19.

I bought the 5W-30 Full Synthetic Modern Engine type. This is normally $11.49 a quart.

Regardless, it's STILL cheaper to buy it in the 5 qt. jugs!

The Modern Engine type is designed for direct injection motors. So pointless for L99/LS3/LS7/LSA, would only help the 6-bangers

IMHO. It's actually mostly marketing hype. Most modern synthetics would be fine in any modern Camaro engine.

The engines that get really picky with the oil are the GDI turbos. They run into a LSPI problem. Low rpm, high load, spark knock. Oil with calcium can be a problem with an engine prone to LSPI. So most the top synthetics switched to magnesium in place of calcium.

Claiming 30% better carbon protection from the entire industry when you think about it is no great claim. I'd bet all the top synthetics are that much better than an industry average. But it looks great on new bottle graphics.

Pick your favorite synthetic that is the right spec for your car and enjoy. If turbo direct injected... be more careful in that selection. The wrong oil in one of those engines can hole a piston pretty quick.

Mobil 1 at Walmart is around $25.00 for 5 qt. containers.

I use only Royal Purple 5W30 HPS #31530. Ordering on line saves me a few dollars. Just yesterday I order another case of 12 quarts, with free delivery the cost was $104.64. I have a 2014 and I believe the lowest cost for this oil was last 12 quarts I purchased, Summit Racing had a sale for something like $97.00. I was going to order 24 quarts but thought different.

I agree, but I don’t think it’s limited to just the turbo motors. I have intentionally stayed clear of direct injection, period.
