There's been plenty of moments in history where Corvette got pushed around a bit at the drag strip, and the '79 WS6 T/A would've probably sent the L-82 '79 Corvette to pits on a road course too...

Let's face it, I don't think Camaro sales bleed off sales from the Corvette... There's no comparison to a Corvette, it lives or dies on its own merits. It's tough selling 2-seater sports cars right now, I don't think anyone's sales figures are up, and the Corvette is getting damn long-in-tooth from a production-cycle standpoint.

The "ceiling" that Chevy faces with the cost/price of the ZR1 has nothing to do with Corvette prices, it has everything to do with how much people are willing to pay for a damn Camaro... Ford faces the same reality with the Mustang, and with all the options laid onto it, they're pretty much up at the limit of what people would shell-out for a fast Mustang.

I also find it humorous that when prices are compared, it's the base MSRP of the ZR1 vs. the GT500 loaded with every possible option. C'mon now...
True! And well said!

Not that I think it's 6% or anything, but it doesn't take a math-whiz to understand that as power increases, parasitic driveline loss decreases AS A PERCENTAGE..

And Ford has been consistently conservative with its horsepower ratings lately, across the board... Seems as though they're (smartly) following the under-promise and over-deliver principle of marketing...

So we'll see when some objective back to back road course times come in, how the new GT500 suspension set up really works. Erik

2012 ZL1 > 2012 GT500
2012 ZL1 < 2013 GT500 at first glance... I want to see the test comparisons, but the HP difference is enough to make the claim.

So...I take it as Ford answered with their 2013 since their car wasn't gonna cut it in 2012 for comparison.

I've said it before...Mustang was very lacking while Camaro was not around. They didn't improve their car till they had to. It's the same thing with their 2013s. As FbodFather said...they wouldn't be making the current cars if they didn't have to.

The problem I have is with some of these reported high dyno numbers, that would equal drive train loss of 6%. That is along the lines of the magic bullet theory.

Amen!!

See Torsen differential and Carbon fiber drive shaft. Also I believe the clutch has reduced rotating mass.

Don't worry, there will be more dyno numbers to prove it.

LOL

I'm honored to share in the happiness that the new ZL1 owners (and owners to be!) are now experiencing.

The Best Of Luck To Each And Every One Of You.

Im not too sure but does the $6,500 include the Recaro seats as well? I just knew the TP and the PP cost around $6K. Didn't know if the seats were included in that price.

I'm not bashing Ford or the GT500, just stating what I believe is true! Also, have any times been released for base model 13 GT500's yet? Maybe I missed those too!!
A base is going to yield these results on the dyno....
http://blogs.mustang50magazine.com/6...led/index.html (this is also no the highest dyno but you will see those soon too as well) There are no powertrain differences between a base car and an optioned car.

It is actually going to cost LESS than the ZL1 due to the GG tax on the Z. No need for the coolers if you are not a track whore that ~1300 would be enough to put the GT500 over 700whp on pump gas.

As many others have said though, you really can't lose either way The Z is an awesome car! I think the sharper lines make it look a little tougher, but I do not like the interior/gauge layout. That is just MY opinion though.

Some people will buy the Z no matter what, and some will always choose the Ford. That is not my style, but I can appreciate it.
