2023 ZL1 with a tick
Hi all,
I picked up a 2023 ZL1 two weeks ago (long story hunting/ordering). Well, it has a loud tick/tapping noise coming from the rear of the engine compartment (and other problems worth their own threads). I don't think it is engine related. I was wondering what everyone thought. I know this issue has come up before. I also know that DI motors are noisey but this is on a whole other level and is louder than my friend's ZL1s ('21 and '22). See vid below. Note: it doesn't happen on cold starts. It comes when the engine has been running a few minutes and then comes and goes. Sometimes at idle it comes but when I accelrate from a stop it goes away. Weird. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/_VcGBQaNsPE I have an appointment with the dealer next friday. If I get the "couldn't duplicate customer concern" I am going to lose my mind. Yeah, you don’t need me to tell you this, but that is FAR beyond normal DI noises, especially from the interior.
This is even on an entirely different level from my serpentine belt tensioner failing (which, by the way, everyone thought I spun a rod bearing when I posted it here, so yeah, that sounded BAD), which can be heard here: https://youtube.com/shorts/gdYdMrSlf9c?feature=share If your dealer starts jerking you around, open a case with GM directly. |

Definitely a strange noise. My thoughts is it might be in the exhaust system somewhere. Maybe bolts have come loose and need to be tightened. My ZL1 doesn’t have a noise like that but some other noises on cold startup that go away when the engine gets to operating temperature. Good luck and get it to the dealer since it is an issue for warranty.

I have this EXACT same issue on my brand new ZL1 that I picked up 8 days ago. I brought it to the dealership for its first oil/diff fluid change and they told me that they believe the problem to be this TSB: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...16662-9999.pdf I have an appointment to bring the car back next week as my schedule would not allow me to leave the car with them this week. Let me know what your local dealership finds, in case the problem ends up being something else. |

I think others have had this performed and the sound came back. Still seems weird that it sounds like an exhaust leak . . . I will for sure update this thread after friday. Last edited by triggerjerk; 07-30-2023 at 12:23 PM. |

Came here to say fuel line.... was an issue several years ago. Some things come, some things go, and some things come back.

Seems like that might be the problem! Hope you get it fixed.

my new ZL1 is in the shop today for this exact same issue
I should be getting a call back shortly so I’ll update this thread as I learn more. My car was built in June 2023 I’m actually glad to know its not just me, I hate having my car sound this bad. |

I was just going to say the same. My car is a 2023, but was built July of 2022. I have 566 miles on it and haven't had this ticking noise(knock on wood, YET). Very unfortunate for you guys with the June '23 build date. I hope it's only isolated to a few units and not a larger problem. Hopefully GM will look into it a bit further if there happens to be more cases of this. Sorry this has happened to those that are experiencing it, but hope you guys are able to get it fixed soon!
