But you're assuming that people are going to cross-shop the Z28 and Corvette. As many people have said in the past, and I was/am one of them, just because two cars have a similar price point or power output, it does not make them competitors.
While there are a lot of people on this and other performance forums who would rather buy a Corvette than a Camaro, if the price point was near the same, there are a lot more that realize that they are two completely different cars built for two different purposes. Personally, I don't think a Z28 version of a Camaro, even at close to the same price and power output, is going to cut into the sales of base Corvettes. And certainly not the Z06. I did not buy a GT500 because I could not afford a Corvette, nor did I buy it because I thought it offered better performance. I bought it because it was the vehicle that best suited my desires/needs at this point in my life. Last edited by garagelogic; 09-25-2009 at 04:33 PM. |

Someone with more knowledge about this please set me straight, but I thought
Hypereutectic pistons were inferior to forged pistons where higher power out-put was concerned? That they couldn't handle some of the power add-ons as well as forged pistons could...

This is correct. But this probably doesn't come into play unless we are talking 700+rwhp.

Hypereutectics are better now, I believe. They still aren't as good as forged slugs in the LS9, but they're better than the past.

BUT, if you're into heavy modifications, then of course you have a greater concern. And so, if the LSA has a weakness for these people, it's going to be the pistons. If anybody out there with expertise in the field can comment, it would be greatly appreciated!! |

Since Chevy will start building the C7 vette in 2012, I highly doubt it will have a base price of 48k. JMHO.

Seeing "what might be expected" in the Z28 is making me think twice about ordering the SS. I just wonder what the price tag will end up being after its' all said and done.
