If this is truly what GM has instore for us, a New Z/28, then I will gladly take my 2SS now and add whatever parts are nessessary later ( i.e.: Hood with scoop ... front bumper ... rear blade spoiler ) to convert my SS into the Z/28, but not have to pay a rediculas price later when the hype starts all over again!

Actually to me this doesn't look like it would be a road race Z/28 which is what they originally were designed for. The hood scoop looks like something you'd get as an aftermarket item from J.C. Whitney. Unless the large intake/openings where the fog lights are located are for cooling brakes, oil filters, or CAI, they look just like perfect wind pockets to increase frontal resistance and mess up aerodynamics.
For a Z/28 I'd like to see chassis improvements, lighter weight, a slightly larger version of the mail slot already on an SS that actually works for CAI, which should also be standard. Instead of just increasing horsepower, reduce the weight and make it a killer road racer; handling, steering, braking. Slightly tune the engine up to 445 hp or thereabouts and knock 500 lbs of weight off the entire car. Right now the power to weight ratio is about 9.06 (3860 ÷ 426); drop that weight to 3360 and the power to weight ratio would be 7.55 (3360 ÷ 445) which would put it in some serious performance territory. You'd have to increase the power of the current SS from 426 to 511 hp to get to a P/W ratio of 7.55 just to give you an idea. Add long throw driving lights to the inside corners of the lower front intake area, make the fog lights wide beam lights for cornering visibility. Put the cluster gauges up above the vents in the center of the dash panel so they are quickly visible to the driver. And bring it in at $39,999. Maybe it's just me but throwing ricer style scoops and fake intakes on it and adding horsepower just doesn't say "Z/28" to me. It was never intended to be a 1/4 miler funny car, it was a road racer that Mark Donohue and Roger Penske made into a legend. I'd really like to see it follow that heritage.

The '69 SS 396 weighed in at 3460lbs and was rated at 375hp, and the '69 Z28 weighed in at 3300lbs and was rated at 290hp. I think the confusion about which model was a higher performer comes from the misleading power numbers. As I'm sure many of you know, manufacturers would constantly understate horsepower numbers so that their customers could have a chance at making insurance payments. From what I have read in the past it seems the 396/375 actually made around 390hp, while the dz302 made around 380hp. Both cars were in a dead heat at the 1/4 mile with the SS coming out slightly on top, but as soon as you threw in some curves the Z28 left it in the dust. The SS was the ultimate GT Camaro, but the Z28 is definitely the car I would have chosen.

When the new z comes out Then I will buy It. Sounds like the SS has its problems! For one not enough power! With the Z it should all be fixed! Just me saying!
