Question about the '12 steering wheel

Last night I attended the Dallas Auto Show, and got my first, in person look at the new wheel. It seemed to be a smaller diameter unit compared to the one in our '10, but I'm wondering if the column itself, the squarish housing behind the wheel where the key cylinder is, has shrunk as well for '12? The reason I ask is that in our '10, I was constantly banging my knee on the bottom of the column, and to get out of the car, I had to raise the wheel and column to clear my legs. Last night, I got in and out of 2 different cars, and having everything set in my preferred driving position, I could get in and out without having to move the wheel out of the way. I already had a headroom issue w/ the sunroof that was in our '10, which is easily remedied by not getting a sunroof, but if they've changed the column as well as the wheel, then that solves my biggest gripe w/ the driving position. I understand that everyone fits differently, I'm not knocking the car, I'm just saying it didn't fit "me" very well.

I'm liking the new interior touches for '12, certainly an improvement.

You know the wheel is telescopic as well right? May be a matter of moving the wheel in or out as well as up and down. I don't know the answer to your wheel size question.

Pretty sure the only change was the wheel itself.

Yeah, it wasn't a telescoping issue, it was how low the column hung on my '10. In any event, the new wheel is a nice improvement.

It would've been nice if gm left that ugly gold bow tie off of the wheel, and the whole car! Oh well, more to paint

I'm assuming by your inferences that you no longer own the 10'. The only change in the interior steering components for 12' was the wheel itself..........and you state that your knees had more clearance in the 12' with the same seating settings..............I must ask, have you lost weight or something...........there has to be a logical explanation to your having more room. I'm 6'5" and my weight varies upwards to nearly 300 lbs...........and I have no issues with my knees knocking or headroom. Oh! I have a sunroof.........

We sold the '10 about a year ago, in no small part because of the fit issue. I'm 6'00", 200. One difference was that we had a 1SS and we were sitting in 2SS's at the auto show. My understanding is that the only differences in the seats are the cloth vs leather, nothing in the seat structure itself. But I'm wondering if they've changed the amount of seat travel up and down since ours was built, because I had a sunroof too, and would hit my head on the roof on moderate bumps, and I seem to remember the seat being bottomed out. It was at that seat setting that I also was having the knee hitting the steering wheel/column issue. I wonder if there wasn't something wrong w/ my seat, and it wasn't going all the way down for some reason. The passenger seat didn't adjust up or down, so I couldn't compare it to that.

The new wheel looks like something that could be shared with the tahoe, malibu, etc...
